Heather Locklear (even if still young and relatively inexperienced) easily "steals the scene" opposite a mediocre Jack Coleman. Too bad that Al Corley was not still around for this scene, which would have been so much more dramatic....!!
@Inyourlap
5 жыл бұрын
All the replacements for the Carrington children were bad: Al Corley was a perfect Steven: sensitive, strong but with some weaknesses, rebellious and I think many gay men could relate to him. When Jack Coleman stepped in, it was a mess and Steven became irrelevant. Pamela Sue Martin was a perfect Fallon especially in seasons 1-2. Then the writers made her character stupid and I can understand that PSM decided to leave. Emma Samms did a basic job with the poor material she was given and started doing a good job only in season 9. Catherine Oxenberg was a good Pouty Amanda (even if the character was just a spoiled brat) and was fired for asking a minor raise. The replacement was a debacle (and I don’t blame Cellini, the poor girl wasn’t helped by the storyline she was given). And finally, replacing Adam in the Reunion was the worst insult.

Lived for dynasty every wed night at 9 pm, then would talk with friends at school the next day. Heather Locklear is gorgeous and was my fav character…she could hold her own against anyone had had the best responses to situations. The clarinet solo was always her introduction to the scene and it worked well. Was so happy when they brought her back as full time role in season 5! Dynasty was a cultural event in the 80s! I think Al left on his own accord because he was upset with the direction they were taking Steven, but, yes, I missed him, too. @Inyourlap

Al Corley wanted the producers to explore Steven’s homosexuality and the producers wanted to water it down by supposedly “manning it up” and making him more straight than gay, or at least bi. He was pretty vocal about his disagreement and basically said that he wouldn’t be happy to play this kind of Steven. Which basically meant “make him right or fire me”. So it was more or less a mutual agreement about a disagreement. Dynasty wasn’t too popular yet in seasons 1 and 2 but the writing was more interesting: it was the rich vs. the poor and it wasn’t as caricatural and camp as it became from season 3. Dialogues in season 1 were actually very well written especially when Fallon and Steven (each in their own way) talked to Krystle how the rich live. And Blake was a villain who sent his dogs to a man on the ground and who raped his wife. So I can understand Al Corley’s decision even if I regret it because he was so good.

@warrenmarsh5626

Oh boy, are you green! Homosexuality remains hugely unpopular to this day. No one wants their son or daughter to be lesbian or 'gay'. Parents stand by their kids because they love their kids. That's the strength of heterosexuality and family. Being homosexual is no-one's fault BUT it's not anyone's choice either. You are STUCK with it! Most people accept homosexuality because we do not know how to change it yet. The rest is just propaganda, that's all. The 'gay community' means that homosexuals are segregated from society, which suits 'liberals' and conservatives alike. Real diversity would mix people together. It's a fraud. Male homosexuals would, in my opinion, be much happier if they realised that homosexuality is about being sexually and emotionally attracted to other men and not about being an effeminate parody of a hysterical female. Usually one who despises them far more than any 'homophobe' could but says all the politically correct correct drivel and then laughs all the way to the bank. That really would be liberation!

Everything Sammy Jo said is something you might reasonably say to a closeted gay guy to help him be reflective and honest. But the scene is ruined by the accusatory tone. She's blaming Steven for being gay instead of supporting him. And she was willing to stay with him for a New York lifestyle but not a Denver one. Heather Locklear was amazing in this role, but the character was inconsistent and often simply mean.

This scene is really lame. All of a sudden, the main problem between Steven and Sammy Jo is his bisexuality? That issue never came up even once during their short marriage in Season 2. At that time, their main issue was that Steven had no money of his own and couldn't provide Sammy Jo with the material things (like a mink coat) that she wanted.

He wasn't bisexual. All you millennials want to retroactively label him bisexual in this modern PC culture. Steven Carrington was gay. Did you watch the original show at all? I haven't seen a lot of the old or original series. The Actors seemed older but that could be the times. In fairness, I think the character development was stronger in the original. The clothes were better in the original. Or the actors were better - they show cased the clothes. Now the actors the clothes sort of wear the actors. The actors just don't have the strength to carry off the clothes I appreciate the reboot uses designer clothes from high end stores but sometimes it seems the outfits have nothing to do with the character and something they wouldn't pick . Fallon is the strong character now for the whole series - before it was Krystle, Blake and Alexis. Sammy o on the new series really seems to be dragged in to the storyline without Steven. And the multiple Krystles have really watered down the impact of that character. All of them played Krystle differently and itis hard to be emotionally involved as such. The new Alexis is become a bad caricature and certainly lost the powerful evilness. Still have lots of pretty people. I like the diversity in ethnicity now so though some will say it is all about ratings. the reboot is still on the air not because of North American ratings but rather because overseas and Netflix it is a huge hit.

@@skaterboy-cz9wj yeah they seemed older because most of the adults in the show were at least in their 50s and 60s. Also, you have to remember that in those times, the fashions/hair and quality of life and television at the time were aging from our modern perspective, and this included the younger cast, they seemed to dress and behave more mature than people of the same age now. Also about the clothing was the fact that in the original Dynasty, the clothing was a central component that showcased the opulence and wealth of the 80s that they became a staple of the zeitgeist of the decade. The reason now they don’t make that same impact is because there’s so many trends nowadays. Another reason is due to the fact that the modern audience is younger nowadays than in 1981 so they’re not as interested in the elegance and sophistication that the original Dynasty showcased.
