Samsara is an American non-narrative documentary film released in cinemas in 2011 that was directed by Ron Fricke and produced by Mark Magidson. This film is a follow up to their earlier film entitled Baraka, which was released in 1992.
Saṃsāra is a Sanskrit/Pali word that means "world". It is also the concept of rebirth and "cyclicality of all life, matter and existence", which is a fundamental belief of most Indian and Eastern religions. In short, it is the cycle of birth, death and rebirth.
This project was filmed and produced over a period of 5 years, in 25 different countries, and on 5 continents. In 2013 the film was released on Blu-ray disc as a 1 hour and 41 minute documentary film. As a bonus part of the Blu-ray disc there is a 6-part interview shot in 2012 (that runs a total of 49 minutes) featuring mainly Ron Fricke and Mark Magidson discussing various aspects of the Samsara project. This video serves as part 3 of the 6-part interview focusing on "The Editing" behind Samsara.
Samsara was shot on 70mm film and then scanned at an oversampled 8K Ultra High Resolution (8,192 pixels across the frame) with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 @96k/24bits. It was then output onto Blu-ray in Full High Definition 1080p at a Widescreen aspect ratio.
