I use a 9 years old S6 Edge with its original battery. It barely has any capacity left, I can only use the phone in the highest energy saving mode. Then I get about 2 days of standby with minimal use. I use it like in the last 1+ years. So there is some capacity still left in the battery, it's rather the internal resistance that rised so the voltage drops when it gets high load currents, hence it only works in energy saving mode, otherwise it was common for it to drop to 0% from 40% immediately. I plan to replace its battery this month. The problem is, it is so old that it's unlikely to find a good replacement battery, because the replacements are probably 5+ years old, and/or salvaged from e-waste and rebadged in China. So I will order at least 3 different batteries to get a chance maybe one of them will be usable...

I wish you good luck with the replacement battery: I had quite bad experiences with third party (chinese) battery replacements, since new the actual capacity was 80% of rated capacity and the phone/tablet would occasionally shut down when battery was nearing 20%.

That will be brought back to all phones thanks to EU. A few years from now (I'm lazy to look it up), it will be mandatory for every new phone sold in the EU to have user replacable battery. So for simplicity, probably most manufacturers will sell their phones like this worldwide.

Nice video. Easily removable battery would be indeed nice to have even today's phones. When my previous phone was fairly new, it completely froze at least twice, and stopped responding to any buttons. Only fix was to remove the battery for couple of minutes, install it back and re-start the phone. Then it got some major update, and that problem never occurred again, in fact it's still powered up in my closet (without sim card) as a backup alarm clock, camera, portable radio, etc. I only had to replace the phone, because support for it ended, and all apps, like banking app, even KZitem app stopped working in it. So far even the battery is holding ok. It's Samsung Galaxy J3 (2016).

The USB board is available for cheap for most of the common phone models. I use a 9 years old S6 Edge with no repairs done to it AND with the original battery. It really needs a new battery now, but still works. It is still micro USB instead of USB-C, I had to clean the socket several times because it got filled up with fluff, but last time cleaning it I noticed the plastic piece what holds the contacts is broken and floppy, I had to bend it back to shape. But it took 9 years of daily use! So I will probably order a new USB board along with the new battery.

Had two Galaxy phones, one latest 6G with bells and whistles for my wife, a Galaxy S10+ for me. First, the battery puffed up, pushed the back off of her phone. She died around that time, so I didn't bother with repairing it. Then, my S10+ puffed up, cracked the screen, then ejected the back. Both bought for full price new models at the time at the same time. I figure one chance among 3 that I'll get another Samsung anything. Fat chance, slim chance and no chance.

Was the phone in otterbox case? My s10e puffed up because the otterbox case held in the heat as it has that rubber insert covered by plastic. Phone was on phone holder on dash of car and it overheated and puff when the battery crack went the back and the screen popped out. I poked a hole in it to let gas out and covered with tape. Lasted for over a year before the charge went down. Just changed it. Good as new. I don't leave it in the car window now in my truck. It stays in my pocket

@@12voltvids my wife's phone never had a case. I did have an Otterbox, but had removed it to use some accessories. That two different models that were bought a month apart failed though, suffice it to say that I've no overabundance of faith - especially given how many similar cases have occurred. The lithium polymer battery is notorious for massive swelling, the biggest problem being that there is absolutely no provision for any expansion within the case. This results in laptops having their case standoffs snapped off, phones swelling up and crushing components while the case gets forced open and more. From some papers I've reviewed, a fair amount is metallic whiskers creating increased leakage paths internally. A problem we solved in solders back in the late 1960's, but plague us in other fields to this day.

It has always been your right to repair. Capitalistic companies like tesla and Apple, John deer ext have been trying to stop people from repairing their stuff. Problem is you let one company away with this and everyone else jumps on the bandwagon no different than BMW announcing that you have to pay for heated seats on a monthly basis now even though they're installed in your car so now Toyota has jumped on the bandwagon and they're giving people heated seats 43 years and then you will be expected to pay monthly if you want to continue to use them. The solution to this is to not buy any products from these companies if everyone banded together and just boy caught these companies that pull this c*** they would find out very quickly that people won't put up with this b*******. Could you imagine what would happen to apple if everyone just switched to a different brand and didn't buy any apple products? I only ever owned one apple product and that was an ipod touch, I had a real nice set of speakers power speakers to go with it made by Sony and they sounded great I was ready to buy an iPhone but apple changed the connector to make by 300 door set of speakers incompatible. For me that was the straw that broke the camel's back I have not had a single apple product since then and I never will and if others had taken that stance and attitude against apple back when they started the connector b******* they wouldn't be where they are today but the problem is people will just go with the flow. I just saw on a talk show today on the morning show a bar in LA has a new tipping policy. They showed a picture of the credit card terminal. Tip option 1, 100%, 2, 50% 3, 40% and 4, 30%. If a bar or restruaunt pulled that crap on me I would be searching for the no tip option or just pay cash. The thing I'm getting at here is now that 1 joint has set the bar high at a 100% and 50% tip option others will be following as well and the problem with this is especially when alcohol is involved that the bartender ot waitress will keep bring more to get the patron drunk hoping they will hit that 100% option.

@@12voltvids you know why they do it because they can, the technology is there, like addressable cable boxes, what you pay is what you get, and we are all sheep because they keep raising the bar. Baseball games I get on the box, that I pay for a sports package are not available once or twice a week because they are streamed on Amazon prime or Apple TV+ double dipping, and no one has called them on it. NFL and NHL are doing it too, to a lesser degree, but I’m sure that’ll change. Similar to when pro sports were available over the air then over time of a couple of years they weren’t available unless you subscribed to cable. The same thing 30 years later is going on with the streamers. Pay or don’t watch. Nothing personal, it’s just business.

It survived, but few months later the microphone died. Previously I left my first smartphone, a Motorola Defy Mini in the pocket of my jeans, and washed it, with a fully charged battery. The motherboard survived, but electrolysis ate away a lot of traces from the LCD flex. I repaired the flat flex, it took 2+ hours of soldering under a cheap USB microscope.
