You have a point - I definitely agree, Windows is better for gaming. However, you usually spend as much money replacing old Windows computer as you spend on one Mac that will outlast them all. Apple hardware does outgrow itself each year, however, even those from 2011 can stand up very well to any brand new Windows machines. And they aren’t overpriced if you consider the engineering that goes into these beasts - it’s the same way with cars. You pay for a beautiful machine, inside and out.

No, you don’t pay for any Mac with the lowest ‘PC’ specs available. From my experience with computers, any Windows machine that lasts five years and still runs anything like ‘good,’ is a rarity. But hey, good for you. And the fact of the matter is, a Mac will still outlast it; and no matter how much money you pay for a computer, if it’s not made by Apple, it will not be running OS X. There’s quite a difference there. I didn’t pay just to get pretty hardware, I payed to get away from Windows.
@IPrefer2Win

You still haven't told me any of the magic features Apple products have that set them apart? None, I don't care to argue with a blind sheep of a fanboy. Like I said, you'd buy an Apple brick if they released it. There's no need to whine, I understand, you like purchasing inferior products and wasting money. Go for it, enjoy your product and the fact everybody knows the price tag on it, I'm sure your 98' Honda Civic goes nicely with your computer.
@JoelWyncott

I assume it would be running some version of OS X - OS upgrades from Apple are very cheap. Yes, they are pretty devices. And also functional. I hear a lot of complaints from Windows users. You should see the face the of the IT team leader at Fermilab makes when you mention Vista. The advantage Apple holds is that their computers work better than anything running Windows, and have far, far less failings. Form and function are a very good combination. And my my, you aren’t too intelligent, I see.
@JoelWyncott

With a Mac, there’s no need to upgrade. This MacBook Pro that I’m using will probably still be running beautifully in ten years. It will be outdated, but still a great computer. Most computers running Windows die easily within five years. There’s no to try and be insulting really. If that’s your honest opinion on the MacBook Pro, then you are either not very good with tech, or you just don’t want to like Apple. Even PC World admits how good Macs are. Don’t be so immature about it all.
@JoelWyncott

And you can throw as much money at building a custom computer as you want - but if it’s running Windows, it will not last as long as any Apple computer. There’s no harm in building products that look good as well as get the job done right. I’m an objective tech customer. I give credit where credit is due. Windows simply has too many flaws to get my credit while OS X is around. There is a very good reason while Apple is one of the most valuable, and most loved companies in the world.

Too bad the number's don't back any of that up lol. Sorry, but they focus on an aesthetic product. I have a PC that cost $1,560 to build. The most expensive Apple computer could not do half of what my computer can do, and that's a fact. If you want to be a sucker for, "Retina" and "your finger goes from here, to here - the iPhone 5 screen goes from here, to here," go right ahead. iOS is not leading, the iPhone is not leading, not even as a manufacturer.
@JoelWyncott

Except that iOS, like Mac OS X, IS groundbreaking. There is no more stable system. Consistently are iOS users satisfied with how it works - because it WORKS. Most people say ‘It just works.’ Because it does. Apple’s highest priority is making their customers happy. When they design any product, they make it the best they can. People switch from Android to iPhone all the time, but vice versa, is not common. You don’t see many people with five-year-old Androids walking around. But iPhones, yes.
@IPrefer2Win

It's SOLID, there's no question about that but there is nothing ground breaking, nothing that completely separates iOS from the competition, seriously man. I've had the phone for a while and honestly, no different from having an iPod and gluing a phone to it. Want to know a revolutionary product? The iPod. It revolutionized music completely, every MP3 competitor completely backed off, there's no argument to that. Now the iPhone is just a pretty phone, nothing special - except it's an iPod too.

I have an iPhone 5 and up to date I have never, ever used it with one hand. What the hell for? "Let me type obstinately with my iPhone 5 held high in one hand and my Starbucks in the other." I hate, absolutely hate Apple's marketing. The Note is groundbreaking and spectacular. Words can not express how disappointed I am in my iPhone. One of my siblings owns a Galaxy S III, the other bought an unlocked Note II. Those are groundbreaking, feature packed phones, not cute toys.

I totally agree with you on this. Just wish some people would shut up on all the hating. From what I’ve seen of Windows 8, it does seem like it isn’t going to be a big step up from 7. I personally don’t think Microsoft has made a good choice in getting involved in the tablet/tablet-style OS industry. But I guess we’ll see.

I never said you can’t buy a good computer that runs Windows. I just prefer OS X. To each his own. I can’t speak for outperforming other computers, but I haven’t added anything to my Mac yet, and it gets the job done. Besides, I’m more fond of the software I get with it.

Everyone is free to have their own opinion. As it is, you shouldn’t try and deny, iOS in itself - leaving aside what it’s been packed with - is a groundbreaking operating system. And it’s stable. Leave ANY OS open for the user to tamper with it, and you WILL sacrifice that.

This was a seriously awesome review. I have the S3 and the Nexus 7, the Note 2 could replace both those devices. But you know what would be even more killer? A Windows Phone 8 version of that. That way you could sync it to your desktop and work files. The stylus would be even more handy in an enterprise setting. I might just wait for that, rather than picking up an Android version... decision, decisions.

Great review, all the pertinent points were very clearly put over. I really feel I understand the functions the phone has to offer much better having seen this review. The one thing I'm still unsure about is hspa+ or 4g /lte. As its yet to be launched in the uk, is it better to wait or are the advantages so slight as to make it unnecessary. Great work though and keep it up, regards Rich

I love Samsung's plastic! No problems. It's the reason why their phones are so light weight. Replacement with metal would be a big step backwards. For example, most police and military firearms are constructed mostly of 'plastic,' making them easier to carry for extended periods. Samsung's plastic is beautiful & long lasting, no problems at all.
