Try to get a blow dryer to slowly thaw out and melt the ice out. Then press the reset button and see it if the Ice maker resets.

What if there isn't any ice build up? It's just not producing ice although I hear some kind of pulsing motor that seems to be trying to do something. Press the test button on the side, unplugged for a couple of minutes, nothing working. I don't think it's a supply line issue because I have water and we check the filter for gunk and didn't find anything.

wont the defrost melt everything out for it to work again? or do you need to remove all that stuff..you had a tough time of it..i dont think id wanna try it for fear of breaking something in there.. and...do you apply the sealant from the inside..the top? or from underneath? thx

I have basically the same problem with ice build up in this icemaker. At the beginning I just defrosted it again and again. Then I realized I'm not the only one and that it normally should work properly. I read a lot articles about sealing the gaps at ice maker and started so doing it from the outside with no progress, then removing all parts from the inside and sealing the possible gaps from the inside. But especially when removing the icemaker compnents I realized that the most critical ice buildup was at the top of the spillover tube. The tube has a heating wire wrapped around it covered in a metallic tape. This heating wire ends approx. an inch before the top end of the tube. I added some more insulation to it with the hope that this will help. Later I found an article which mentioned that the newest version of this tube has the heating attached until the top end and not ending before. Of course my ice maker froze again and I checked it every few days and realized, that the spillover seems to freeze over at first and then the rest from the icemaker. So I dissassembled everything again, removed the tape with the heating wire carefully from the tube and reattached it to the tube starting directly at the top of the tube. I've done this 2 weeks ago and still no ice buildup at the tube and the rest of the icemaker still looks ok. I will monitor this but currently I'm convinced that I've solved the problem and defrosting it once a year for the future would be ok for me (was every 4-6 weeks in the past).

I called today about the ice issue and the lady let me know that Samsung is aware of the problem. They are currently offering to send someone out and fix it for free. Even if it is out of warranty. If they have to come 2 times they will offer other options to try and make up for the issue.

Samsung has started offering to pay for repairs, or reimbursing people for previous ice maker repairs. Call their service line 1-800 SAMSUNG. Explain you have a known issue, and ask your options. Don't take it apart before calling Samsung, they may decline to help you if you do.

Thanks for the heads up! I just contacted the Samsung thru their text help ( Text HELP to 62913 ). They are sending an authorized tech, free of charge. My Frig is out of warranty, at just over 3 years old. We'll see how the fix goes, but at least Im not buying parts.

The service guys called me to "confirm info and get more details" They then dropped a $94 service call fee on me. "Nope, it's free of charge, as well as repairs." They say OK, we'll call Samsung. Got a text tonight, "Samsung said due to 'out of warranty" I have to pay it. Do I want to cancel appt?" I call Samsung, tell them "It's a known issue, your other rep said no charge, do the right thing." Samsung says, " We'll put in notes, no charge" We'll see what happens Monday. If you call, don't be intimidated, stand up for your right to a working appliance.

@@mattw9516 The first 2 service guys, somehow turned up with incorrect parts. Not sure how thats possible. They had the Model & Serial numbers. They immediately rescheduled. The 3rd guy arrived today and had all correct parts. Replaced Mother board, Door Ice Shoot, Auger motor, Ice Maker & Ice bucket. The tech said the replacement Mother Board would alter a longer defrost cycle, supposedly to self de-ice. I asked what the chances of the problem returning were. He said, "20%", but that he had not personally seen the problem return, after parts replacement. All that said, I wasn't charged ANY parts or labor. It never even came up. About a hour after the tech left, the ice maker was happily making ice again.......We'll see for how long.

@@ivealmostseenitall awesome. My service guy two weeks ago said parts are hard to get, will be 2wks or more before coming out. I said, "Even to just LOOK at it??" Yes, we want to be prepared. Meanwhile, I found motherboard, and Ice maker online and can be here in a week. BUT, I'd have to pay for it. NOPE. So, I wait. Glad that you got it solved.

Thanks for the location of the ice maker reset button - I had to press that to get the ice maker going again after I cleared the ice out. I have done this several times now over a few years. I look at it as maintenance lol..... At least I can do it for free but I wish Samsung would come up with a forever fix on it.

You know I had one that lasted 18 months. I did some research on the net and there were thousands of people with the same experience. I saw many hauling theirs back to costco while I'm in there. I had an old plasma tv from them and it lasted 15 years. I think they now make crap, phones that start on fire, bad refrigerators and TVs that don't last a couple of years. I stay away from the brand.

I don’t use the ice maker, I don’t have a water line ran to the fridge. I’ve had it about 2 years and the first year it would make a LOUD jack hammer sound for about 5 seconds about 3 times. Very scary if I hadn’t already saw the reviews on how noisy it is. This time the freezer stopped putting out cold air. Thanks to this video I was able to hold the two buttons on either side of the control frame and the noise stopped. I think it’s getting cold again...thanks to the video maker of this KZitem help!

We bought one of these several years ago and I've defrosted it with a hair dryer at least a dozen times. Also had to pop off the back panel, thaw out and open the tubes to the bottom as the back would freeze up. Thankfully, after going behind it (at bottom) and opening the tubes, the back hasn't frozen in over a year. My wife just mentioned seeing the ice maker online and I decided to look up how to fix. I appreciate your video.

The drain tubes that lead to the evaporation pan on the bottom of the unit look like cow's udders but have closed bottoms. They tend to get sticky and then won't let the water drain out of them and it backs up into the freexer, ice maker and refrigerator compartments. Remove then, clean them and maybe cut a small end off so the water can drain properly. Also, dust gets inside them when the unit is in defrost mode because the recirculatin fans can pick up airborne dust when the doors are opened and closed. You may be surprised at what comes out of those water drains!

Thanks for the videos on these damn ice box nightmares. I've completely deiced my icebox, removed both the ice tray and the motor and reassembled everything but now for some reason my ice tray isn't getting filled with water to make ice. I've reset the tray with the button inside, several times. Gone through the entire process of FD again. I unplugged the fridge and let it set for 5 minutes and still nothing. What else can I do? The water has always worked in the past. Thx

yes you can just turn the ice maker off and everything works. I have this problem and have removed the bucket inside the icemaker that collects ice and the fridge/freezer work as normal

My ice maker froze up. My solution was to turn it off, Child lock it, and turn off the water...it WAS a vacation home. (So, no water = no freeze-up). Now a full-time home, I reversed the process: turned on the water, turned on the ice maker, un-Child locked it. Pushing the test button on the high right side produces a pleasant two-tone sound. I get water dispensed, the auger turns, but NO ice is made. Now what?

So I also have an ice maker in the bottom that’s also not working. Is there a separate fix, OR will fixing the top also fixed the bottom? I just a house, and this fridge came with it. It’s also the ONLY appliance that didn’t come with a manual. 🤦♀️

Try to push the blue reset button on the front right side of the ice maker. It should reset and start turning if the ice is all clear.

Tech was here today with full Samsung Icemaker Repair Kit, including new icemaker, Y-clips and rectangular gasket, heated drain tube and a new motherboard. Also did silicone caulking to block external air seepage. New motherboard is supposed to run automatic defrost for a longer time than initially. Fortunately I had HD Extended Service Plan with only 2 months left. Before he arrived I did 7 consecutive Forced Defrosts as he told me one he went to do yesterday was a complete iceberg that he had to have homeowner fully defrost so he could return later date.

This is not the correct way to do this job. That coil is a cooling loop not a heater. The heater is on the ice maker itself. Never used heat gun or hair dryer to defrost unit. Silicone seal it but looking at your ice issue it the fill line. There an updated ice kit that comes with drain tube on auger, clips, new version ice maker, and main board. That ice maker you have is the old style. Samsung are now giving out warranty for the ice maker issue only no other issues. The correct steps is put unit on fd mode, used steamer to defrost no heat gun or hair dryer, put unit on demo mode during or after taking off of fd mode so lights could be on but compressor want turn on. I saw that cooling loop cooling put it demo that wouldn't happen. Removed the auger assy dry up area. Now for this step you need an expection mirror and flash light. Put mirror where the water comes in if water line to deep water splashes when ice maker calling for water causing the ice built up over time. If it is to deep the fridge has to get pulled out and that gray hose on top back needs to be pulled out a little than check it with the mirror to make sure it not to much out or to deep just need to barely see the line in the when using the mirror. Put all parts back on and take it off of demo mode and that might help. I just do that steps plus install the ice room kit. I do those kind of repairs for a living. I don't mind helping others to do it the right way. Other than that cool video but I had to make something clear about the information you gave.

Yes it is piece of junk. Very expensive fridge freezer. Mine is not up to a year and I have called in an engineer twice. Now the ice maker is not working!!!

You don’t. My wife went for a long walk during the 3 hours of beeping. I did 7-8 Forced Defrosts this morning before Tech arrived. He said it was best he had seen, normally he has to tell customers I will reschedule once you completely defrost icemaker by unplugging for 48 hours with doors open.

I did a Forced Defrost 7 times this morning before tech arrived. I asked him why he didn’t bring a steamer and he said they burnt out too many and took too long so they require homeowner to fully defrost now. He didn’t even bring the box of repair parts until he was sure he could work on it with no ice. Glad to hear he was impressed by my KZitem knowledge and ability to decipher instructions on how to do Forced Defrost. It is very tricky even after doing it 7 times, never once on the first try either.

I wish I saw this video before I took a torch to my damn ice maker, I had the Samsung technician come out and he change the ice maker but he couldn't close the door and guess what he use as an excuse, He told me he had to get a part he would be coming back , slick Jalal never showed up again and I found out the ticket was closed

Guess what people, every time you dispense ice cubes, equal volume room air replaces the the cubes. You can seal from outside, you don't have to go through the trouble of removing the ice maker. At the end all you are doing is delaying the frost up. This is a design issue. Defrosting trouble surfaces should be done automatically. I am not sure why Samsung doesn't wan to buy a Whirlpool refrigerator and copy their design.

Never use a heat gun or blow dryer to defrost your ice maker, it could melt your box. Some ppl used a steam gun to melt the ice.

Mine stopped making ice but it's not iced up. If I press and hold the reset button on the ice maker it will dump the ice currently in the tray, refill with water but won't dump the new ice when it's done. I've even tried unplugging the refrigerator and plugging it back in but still won't run thru a complete cycle of ice. Any ideas? Thanks!

Sealing the holes was suggested by Samsung and was that your suggestion ? I would think the holes were there to allow the fan air to have to place to exit the ice unit for circulation.. yes/no ?

Ice will not be harvested until the ice making mold reaches a low enough temperature. If you did not reposition the refrigeration tube that CHris pointed out in the video, properly under the ice maker itself, it may never get the mold cold enough to initiate an ice harvest and refill cycle, even after resetting the icemaker. That is the principal all icemakers work on wheter it has the drop down bar or paddle or has an infrared system like this does.

Hi Chris, I have a Samsung RF22R7851SR. I bought it on April 14,2020. The ice maker is not dispensing ice. The light on the water, cubed ice & crushed ice selector is not on at all. I emptied the ice bin and reset the ice maker. There was no ice buildup. What should I try next?

Samsung was suppose to have started to install newly redesigned ice makers in their new fridges but I guess not. I will never buy another Samsung refrigerator until they get a new and improved ice maker. I'll either go back to using ice trays or buying a counter top ice maker.

@Mama Bear green If I were you, I would call whoever you need to call & return it as soon as possible because its going to give you more problems down the road, such as water leaking & French door mullion issue & of course not to mention ice buildup; those are the problems so far I have & I wouldn’t be surprised or shocked if there is going to be more problems. And yeah, I forgot to mention that I found broken pieces in refrigerator which I can’t even figure out exactly what is broken😟

Your unit should still be under warranty., Definitely call the store where you purchased it to report the issue. Also send them (and copy yourself) an e-mail describing the issue. You need to document that this occurred during the warranty period. You should be able to get this fixed or replaced free. We had a LOT of issues with our brand new built-in Samsung oven and, after a LOT of problems with service technicians being unable to fix it by swapping out various boards Samsung replaced the oven after nearly 2 years. That was only because we documented everything during the warranty period as well as every time and everything they did in an attempt to fix the original unit. You absolutely need to put everything in writing, and deep good notes with dates and any other documentation you get during the attempts to fix the problem. And don't attempt to take the unit apart yourself other than instructed by the User Manual. Dismantling anything outside of instructions could void your warranty. This may be a good, helpful video, but NOT if your unit is under warranty.

Yes it beeps continuously during Forced Defrost, I will go for a walk next time but it works fairly quickly, sometimes need to run Fd several times.

every 20 to 30 minutes then see if drawer will come out, if not re set it like you did at the start. It may takes 3 or more times to do it with the beeping cycles, but mine came out after 3 times. Make sure the icesetting is set to fill for new cubes. My experience today, hope this works for you.
