One warning before you try to wall mount it or put it on a desk arm. I’m not aware of any mount that is capable of handling that monitor, regardless of what its weight limit is advertised to be. The problem is that the curve of the monitor makes it so front heavy that mounts simply aren’t strong enough to hold it without it drooping forward. Look around the web and you’ll see people who have arms that advertise over 40 pounds still cannot handle this. Make sure that any mount purchased in the future have tested with this specific monitor.

Like the video. I know you mention two monitors in this video. So wanting to see which could help with what I want to do. What I am looking to do is get as minimalistic as possible with my current setup. I have (3) 27 inch monitors and 3 laptops. Two of the 27 inch monitors are connected to a Dell USB hub. On that hub 2 monitors are connected via HDMI, a Blue Snowball USB microphone, a sound bar using the 3.5mm cable, a keyboard/mouse via Bluetooth, an ethernet cable connected and have a couple of usb memory sticks. I have a surface pro 6 that connects to the Dell USB hub via a single USB cable. So I can use all of the monitors, sound bar, microphone, etc via this one USB A cable. Now one of the other laptops I have was hooked up to another USB hub by IBM. That USB hub has a 27inch monitor hooked up to it and that's all that is hooked up. However, recently I was sent a replacement laptop from work and that new laptop has nothing but USB-c ports on it. So before I buy any adapters to convert the USB-C to something that will let me use that IBM USB Hub and 27 inch monitor, I want to see about becoming much more minimalistic and clean up and reduce power consumption etc. One last thing I will throw in is I am working on another project for another company and they sent me a new MacBook Pro 16 inch that has nothing but USB-C. Then I discovered that lovely feature that is known as USB-C where you can use a single cable to connect the MacBook Pro to a single USB-C port say on a USB hub and the hub would also charge that MacBook laptop. Now taking everything into consideration, this is what I am looking for. I want to get a 49 ultra wide, I want to get rid of the (3) 27 inch monitors, I want to get rid of the USB hubs and this type of reduction would allow me to get rid of 3 monitor power bricks that take up a ton of space. It will also allow me to get rid of 2 power connections from the hubs. The on Dell hub I have a nice sleeve like device that hides all the wires except the usb a cable that connects the Surface and a power cord comes down below my monitors that power the surface. I am building a custom raising desk and plan on hiding the laptops below the desk on brackets or mini shelf so the laptops are out of the way. They 3 laptops will be mounted underneath and close to the back of the desktop. That way I can run two usb-c (1 for the MacBook and 1 for the new Dell) and one display port (for the Surface pro). I want the cables to plug into a single ultrawide monitor and I want to be able to use/display two laptops at once on the single monitor. I want to use a single mouse/keyboard on any one of the 3 laptops. I understand I may not be able to get all 3 laptops connected to the monitor at the same time but that is definitely something I hope could be done. I want to be able to display 3 laptops on the monitor at the same time or at least 2 laptops at the same time with the ability to flip a switch to go to the 3 laptop or pick and choose which of the monitors I want to see on the screen at the same time. Of course I also want the microphone, sound bar and other usb devices to be shareable on any of the 3 laptops. I am sure I may run into a roadblock, for example, I do not think I would be able to have a sound bar or microphone work on two machines at the same time nor would I want to. I have read about some of the ultrawide monitors having a kvm type switch. Question is, can I have it switch between 3 laptops? Can I still have two machines using the monitor but the speaker and microphone doesn’t work till I say flip a kvm switch? I have researched but could not find info on any of the ultrawides that have multiple USB-c ports if you can have more than one laptop be charged via USB-C at the same time. Matter of fact several of the newer hubs out that will have one USB-C port specifically made to charge a laptop and then have other usb-c ports that don’t seem to be able to charge a 2nd laptop. I also saw in one USB-C hub that while charging a mac laptop via USB-C it seemed to be under powered and other connected devices were having issues because that recharging of the laptop was using most of the power on the device and that is with only one laptop being charged. This was a lot to write but I had to get it written down to share. I picture no laptops on my new desk, a single keyboard/mouse Bluetooth wireless, all laptops hidden under desk connected to a single monitor. The usb-c laptops would get charged by the monitor and the Surface pro that does not have USB-C would have a power brick connected to it. The microphone would be mounted on edge of desk next to monitor. If the monitor can support ethernet that would be nice but not a big deal. Looking for some help on this. My backup plan would be to get another hub but then I am not sure what to get when it comes to having a hub that could charge two USB-C based laptops at the same time and not have a power problem for other devices.

I'm currently using CF791 from Samsung with Dell 2415Q vertically. I hate hate hate the CF791 and am about so throw it out after 3 years of use. Loads of issues switching input sources, freesync issues, the firmware is bugged af and not upgradeable. I think I'll just get the Dell because their monitors are simple but at least the firmware is bullet proof. The curvature would make me push out the vertical 2415Q too much from the wall too. I'd love the 240Hz refresh though... did you have any problems with CalDigit and your Dell 49"? By the way CF791 is able to do 100Hz via TS3+, that's having the 4K 2415Q connected as well, all through one cable to MBP.

Hi Peter, thanks for the review. It inspired me to get one. My work and home laptops have HDMI cables only - no DP. What should be the best way to set this up to get the best resolution out of the monitor? I bought 8K HDMI which gives me 59/60hz and the monitor only has one input for an HDMI cable which means I can only use one laptop. I wanted to be able to connect my work and home machines to the monitor. I am tempted to buy the usbc, using your link in the description above. I am not sure if this is for Mac only. What must I do to get a better resolution from the monitor as seen in your video and to be able to use two machines on this monitor? Thank you.

Great video Pete! I have replaced my LG 49" for the Samsung Odyssey G9 mainly because of the 1000R curve as I find it easier to see the screen. However, I'm finding it hard charging my laptop at the same time as using the monitor as my laptop only has 1 USB-C port for both charging and connecting the monitor. I have a ThinkPad docking station and I've tried connecting the monitor via Display Port 1.4 however I cannot get the 5120 x 1440 resolution when using this set up. Not sure what my options are :( Any advice?

I am having the same issue. Amazon warehouse is selling the old version with false information on their product description. I am maxed out at 3840 X 1080 60Hz but paid for the 5120 X 1440 240Hz refresh rate. Read the Amazon reviews, I see someone with the same issue.

Just ordered one of these, going to be interesting to see how it gets on with the new M1 MacBook Air with a Caldigit dock (or directly) as I know there’s been issues. Which MacBook Pro model do you have? I heard the Intel 16” MBP with the Radeon GPU works ok.

@@PeteMathesonmonitor arrived early this morning and finally had a chance to do some testing. Both with Caldigit dock and the standard DP cable from the box. MacBook Pro 2019 13” base (2xTB3, Intel Iris Plus GPU) with SwitchResX installed claimed it was driving the G9 at 5120x1440 @ 120hz but looked blurry. Checked the monitor and it’s really running at 3840x1080 @ 120Hz. Switching to 3840x1080 @ 120Hz and everything matched and less blurry but obviously lost some resolution. Plugged in a MBA M1 base model running Big Sur (11.0.1), and it just worked. 5120x1440 @ 120hz confirmed on both sides. I’m wondering whether Apple have done something in the latest Big Sur release?
@AlexKinch

Bit more testing on the M1, some oddness with having the lid open and closed (it thought at one point the external monitor was the built in display) but been running for about half hour with the lid closed and it's all fine. I think SwitchResX is the key here. About This Mac > Displays says 3840x1080, whereas SwitchResX and the monitor is 5120x1440 @ 120Hz. Would be interested to hear how you get on!
@AlexKinch

@@PeteMatheson I should clarify, I had SwitchResX installed before I plugged in the monitor - but it just came up with that resolution by itself. The next problem to solve that wasn't happening last night/earlier this morning is the MBA going into sleep mode when the lid is closed, but I think that's the CalDigit dock at fault... [EDIT: fixed that by uninstalling beta of SwitchResX and going back to stable release]
