The part shown in the video can be ordered here: amzn.to/2UeeiAe After feedback from 10's of thousands of views and many comments, we'd like to add: 1) Our initial fix as shown in the video and detailed in the article linked above lasted for YEARS. 2) When we ran into the issue again years later, the first thing I checked are the drain tubes at the back of the fridge. Several commenters here have reported those tubes at the bottom back of the fridge (you'll have to roll your fridge out), can get clogged and cause the same issue. I checked ours and they were clear. 3) I then adjusted the fridge temp 2 degrees warmer and after about a week, we were back to normal and no longer having issues with water in the crisper drawers again.

I used the new Samsung part you showed, and it only worked for a few weeks, then same problem nonstop. I've checked the two drain lines in the back and they are clear. I've seen where someone else just attached a long, bare copper wire several inches down into the hole and it worked for years with no issues. Any idea why you think yours worked for so long, and then didn't??

We turned up the temp on our fridge and freezer a few degrees and that actually helped quite a bit! Today I finally got around to completely defrosting per this videos instructions and clearing out the ice but WITH THE TEMP ADJUSTED, hopefully will avoid this problem all together going forward. UPDATE: Installed the updated part yesterday (from Amazon) Getting that old clip off is a bit of a hassle, I used a needle nose plier to wiggle an edge back and forth until it tore. Suggestion - I put a corner of a plastic grocery bag under the old piece to catch any metal scraps that broke off so they wouldn't fall into the drain. Also, even with a dryer and fan pointing inside, and pouring in hot water, the actual drain took about 5 hours to thaw .... so put your food in another fridge if you have one, or for sure an ice chest .. Wow!... excellent detail. And you are the first one that I watched that actually showed the replacement part number... Just ordered, and my next project asap when it arrived!

Great video which helped me quickly find the part and fix the problem in about 1.5 hours for $10. Thanks for your video. My french door fridge is now 12 years old, I contacted samsung a couple of times when this started and they said that they haven't had any reports of this problem. After about 4 years my crisper drawers have not been used. I empty them of water probably 4 times a year. Today (Sept 19 2021) I noticed that the right hand door wouldn't close tightly. After taking a very close look at it I noticed the door storage compartment was hitting the center shelf. I removed the shelf, then saw that the back panel was being pushed out by the ice backing up above the drain forcing out the shelf. I'm surprised that samsung haven't issued a bulletin regarding this problem. I guess I should have kept asking. I will order this part hoping it fixes the issue. Now that I know why my door wasn't closing, it explains the cracking and banging its been doing the last few months. Even appliances complain when things aren't working right.

I found that I had a similar problem but the issue was the channel at the back not collecting water properly. Water was running down from the back left and right wall sections and not into the channel where the water should drain. The channel directing water from the back left and right side down into the hole at the left and right edges wasn't deep enough so the water would just pour up and over the lip. I added a self adhesive rubber tube that seemed to work and I also did the fix as mentioned above with the same part just to be sure that problem didn't happen either.

I am not going to rehash the details provided in the other reviews and in several very helpful you-tube videos. I did have a simple fix which did solve the problem in my case. When I removed the evap cover I was pleasantly surprised to find no icing. I went ahead and replaced the drainage tubes and the evap drain clip. Samsung A/S Assembly-Water Leakage N DA82-01415A has all the parts for less than $25.00 from Amazon. The plate behind the evap coil did not want to come off easily so I left it on rather than risk breaking something. Since icing was not my problem I wasn't too concerned about the insulating strips. What I did find was corrosion on the steel back of the evap cover. The cover has a flange on the bottom that directs condensation into the condensation drain. The flange had corroded to the point that condensation was leaking down the back of the refrig and into the compartment. That explained the rusty stains on the back of the refrig compartment. I cleaned the plate as best I could and dried it thoroughly with a hair dryer. Then I covered the corroded area with self adhesive aluminum tape, making sure to remake the flange. Be sure to press the tape down thoroughly. I did this 2 weeks ago and checked for moisture today. To my great relief the compartment is bone dry. Hope this helps.

@@iridetoo2158 yes. Mine acted up again after defrosting the whole thing n fasting a Cooper wire down the hole. 1. I bought a new back unit, twin cooling, for $140. I bought a "Refrigerator Drain Tube Clip Evaporator Replacement" for like $7 on Amazon. 2. Transfer your food to another fridge or ice chest. Best way is to let the fridge defrost for 24 hrs. I try pulling the twin cooling without it defrosting, it damaged the piece. Be patient. 3. Insert the clip. Replace the new twin cooler. After doing this, it solved my issue. It's been like 3 months and no ice build up. I read on a forum somewhere that over time, the styrofoam build up water and becomes less effective. It gets pretty heavy. Once you replace your twin cooler part, you'll notice the old one will continue to leak water as it sit outside in room temperature. I'm glad I replace my part VS buying a new fridge. Overall cost was about $150 and 2 days of labor. Good luck. BTW, I've had my fridge for over 6 yrs and started to act up in the 5th yr. So Samsung gives only a year warranty. Had trouble with the ice maker twice. Kept freezing up. Finally we got that replaced! Now problem with this leak you show. So had a service guy come out twice, & changed the Twin Cooling system panel 2x. Never addressed the problem you are showing us. Figuring they must have corrected it by now. But no. As of 5/2019 still having a small leak. This is unbelievable that consumers have to go through this! We are under a warranty company...so calling the guy to come back again. They really need to refund us, or have a recall on all their lousy fridges, if they don't get this problem solved! Thanks for your very informative video! 👍🏼

BETTER OPTION- 10 minute fix. Step 1 melt ice on top with hair dryer. Step 2 use Turkey baster to add really warm water on top. Step 3 use hair dryer to blow hot air on water on top. Step 4 use Turkey baster to suck and squirt water in the drain. This keeps the water circulating and warming the ice. Mine thawed in less than 4 minutes. I felt like a genius.

Thanks! We are looking at buying a Samsung Refrigerator and researched and read all the repair problems. Crazy that Samsung doesn't ship these with these fixes when it's new! My take away is put this fix and the one with snipping the rubber drains in the back from another video BEFORE you plug it in and set up your new, Expensive refrigerator. Frustrating to say the least but may "prevent" the problem in the first place!

Hi Rodney and Bobby. Sorry to hear this fix didn't address your issue. It's possible something else is causing your moisture problem. Are you confident you got the drain line completely thawed out before replacing the part? If not, it's possible there's still ice in there that's preventing the water from draining and is backing up. Otherwise we'd suggest getting in touch with Samsung if it's under warranty or finding a good appliance repair person locally if not under warranty. Good luck with it and we hope it gets sorted out quickly for you.

The REAL PROBLEM is actually NOT all this. REPLACE THE FIN TO THE DRAIN HOLE with a piece of 14 gauge copper wire gently looped around the bottom of the heating element. . There are other videos that show exactly how to do this, and is a permanent fix. . The SYMPTOM of this being the REAL PROBLEM is water in and/or under the bottom drawers. . So all the other "fixes" that people try including this or replacing the defrost sensor do not solve the REAL ISSUE. . Make sure the copper wire sticks at least 2 - 3 INCHES INTO THE DRAIN HOLE. It will go down at an angle from the hole into the tube. . This WILL PREVENT the hole from CLOGGING WITH ICE. The excess water WILL DRAIN AS IT SHOULD to the evaporation drip tray under the heat exchanger under the fridge. And the Samsung fridge will then function perfectly, as it should.
5 жыл бұрын
More importantly why is this happening? I just fixed the same problem but wanting to know why it was happening I checked the evap fan and I forced the fridge into defrost to check the defrost element, they both checked out ok. So if this happens again...why? Is the actual defrost algorithm failing ? Is ice forming deeper inside the drain for some reason?
@homefixated
5 жыл бұрын
My understanding is that the stock slip attached to the heating element is inadequate and as a result ice builds up in the drain preventing the water from flowing through the drain hole. Water then overflows and winds up in the crisper bin. The larger clip detailed in the video seems to prevent this and solve the problem.

Use a turkey injector and you can thaw the tube in less than 60 seconds. You need to be gentle because the drain tube is plastic and our injector has a metal tip. Suck up the hot water into the injector, then expel it and suck it back in, repeat. I changed the water after about 3 cycles. I just microwaved about 2/3 a cup of water. Great video and thanks for tip on the replacement part. Wish I had watched this one first!

After years of putting up with soggy drawers ;-) - and no luck finding a reputable repair person in my area (although I did get scammed by a disreputable one!) - I came across this video. I bought the part that day, and this past weekend did the repair. 48 hours later the fridge is still dry inside, I'm SO HAPPY!! Definitely the hardest part was emptying everything out; I chose to let the fridge warm up before removing the panel, not wanting to damage anything and we lived out of coolers for a couple days. Bonus: this is the first time every component of the interior has been fully washed, since I bought it 8/9 years ago... Thanks for the great video ♥️

Just FYI - I was completely unable to cut the old metal tab off using a standard wire cutter as shown in this video. I tried everything from Channelock cable cutters to Hakko flush cutters, all to no avail. I finally resorted to using a pair of miniature bolt cutters, which worked like a charm. Only the bolt cutters were able to bite into the metal tab at a high enough point (i.e. around the rivet) without putting too much stress on the heating element.

No one tells how to PREVENT ice build up - only an involved time-consuming way of TEMPORARILY solving problem.
@peterconrad861

This does prevent ice build up. That piece he installed transfers heat from the defrost heater down into the drain so that it doesn't ice up. In order to install it he needed to follow a time consuming process of removing the ice, but it won't return with the defrost heater properly heating up the drain hole now.

Rhonda Ford , Mine is the exactly like you described, looks like Samsung put more of a bend in the middle of the tube to direct water to the drain, I actually trimmed off some of the bottom of the new part so it would clip over the tube and still be down in the drain, will see if that works

Hi, thanks for the video. I’ve been struggling With this for a few years. I found that there is a drop tube at the back of the refrigerator that is white. Inside is a little valve that lets water down but stops insects/ warm air from going up. Algae had grown on it and it was stuck closed. The water was backing up all the way to the coils. It was an easy fix once I pulled it out.

Thanks everyone! With your ideas and some boob-tube ideas I got mine functioning again! After 6 years ours froze to the point that the fan was making more and more noise within a 1 hour window! basically: opened her up (broke off a small piece of Styrofoam, defrosted overnight, cleaned all the hair/dust rabbits, created a pipette using a baster and a straw which I gently shoved down the drain hole, poured hot water and pumped, shop vac BOTH top and bottom orifices, changed out the hot water several times until my 6 year old said, "IT'S WORKING" - she was watching the drain (I had pulled the tube and had it draining in a lunch container.
