I graduated from San Angelo Central High School in 1965 and moved to California a week later. At that time the population was only around 30,000 but the place still has the same look and feel as it did back then except it's obviously larger. There was very little for someone like me who was interested in pursuing a career in computers and it was an important move and opened up a lot of opportunities that were not to be found in San Angelo. I must say that I was fortunate to attend Central High School. There were some really excellent teachers that went the extra mile to help me succeed and I will always remember them.

Overcast day doesn't help. A lot of dead trees for April. A lot died or had barely started budding after the big winter storm a couple months before. San Angelo is pretty darn vibrant especially for dry West Texas. There are actually lakes, rivers, and greenery. The driver spent a lot of time circling parts of the town that aren't great if you want to show it off. Didn't really catch any of the pretty parts. They only briefly left the central part of the city. But all cities have good and bad. The downtown is thriving. Nice riverwalk. It was recently named the Visual Arts Capital of Texas.

I really liked living in San Angelo. BUT!!! Everything is inside the city limits or was in 2003. Once you set foot outside the city limits, nothin but crickets, lol. There wasnt much to do there for entertainment except drink or clubs or go to the movies. Its an alright town for retiree's. It was one of the last towns I've ever been to, that had an actual Mom & Pop sit down restaurant. There were several still in operation in 2003, cant say now days though. Very nice drive, be careful out there!

Does anybody know for how much one can rent an appartment there? I wanna come there for 2-3 months (I am from Germany) and stay to write and do other projects. I figured that is a cheaper way than a motel/hotel.

I would suggest that you also look at towns in the Texas Hill Country (near Austin) or towns like Marfa or Alpine in west Texas. I think they might have better options for short term leases.
