A fire broke out in “The Red Barn” building that was housing a pedicab business. The fire quickly grew to engulf the entire building. There were many explosions from the lithium batteries inside the building.
The fire spread to a building next to the original and close to 50 people were evacuated from a senior center. Firefighters were able to put out the fire on the roof of that building.
A person was burned in the fire and transported to UCSD's Burn Center. That person was reportedly living in the building. Firefighters were able to put out the fire, but not before the building was destroyed.
It took approx 9 hours to finally get the fire out and up to 16 senior citizens were moved to another place to spend the night due to the fumes from the lithium batteries that burned.
UPDATE: 11-10-22
KFMB CBS8 has stated that upon their investigation. The business VIP Pedicab did not have a permit to be operating their business in this building.
