This is the view from my window seat taxiing out to Runway 27 at San Diego International Airport SAN on September 21, 2024. I was on board a United Express Embraer E175LR aircraft flying to Los Angeles LAX. This video shows the San Diego Airport from Terminal 2 West, to Terminal 2 East, past the Old Terminal 1, and then finally past the new Terminal 1 under construction.
They have made quite a bit of progress on the new $3 Billion terminal coming to San Diego next year. About this time next year, the old Terminal 1 will be demolished and 10 additional gates will be added to the new Terminal 1. A new parallel taxi way (part of which we taxied on during our roll past the new Terminal 1 building) is also be added to allow for better efficiency getting aircraft to and from the gates to the runway.
San Diego will remain the busiest single runway airport in the western hemisphere. It is going to be a huge relief once the new Terminal opens by the end of 2025.
Check out some of my earlier videos from San Diego if you'd like to see what SAN looked like in years past.
