San Diego’s highly anticipated organics roll out finally commenced this month with residents in zip codes 92102 and 92113 being the first to receive their carts. By the end of February, most, if not all of the expansive Wednesday route spanning from CA 94 to CA 52 and I-5 to I-805 will be rolled out. The City put an emphasis on starting with homes that don’t have any green service, such as this area and will gradually be moving north toward Clairemont. Residents have an option between a 35, 65 and 95 organics cart, with the standard size being 35 for MFDs and 95s for all other houses. Of course, after delivery, residents can swap sizes or ask for an additional cart. The city is also aggressively educating residents. Before the rollout, 2 notices were sent out in the mail letting residents know of this program. Additionally, each crew has their own dedicated ESD representative that follows them along and helps answer residents’ questions. In all, I’d say ESD really took their time to ensure a smooth roll out and it appears to be working but next Wednesday will be the real test!
You may remember A&D Solutions as the company that rolled out Carlsbad back from March-July. I was able to talk with some of the crew and after finishing Carlsbad, some went to Miami, Louisiana, and Sacramento to start a new roll out. They also said you can choose to be away from your home as long as you want as there’s always roll outs to be completed around the country!
Thanks to the crew for allowing me to film! Hope you find this!
