I've been to San Diego County's new Waterfront Park with my family three times since it opened last month, and each time I've seen multiple security guards telling parents that they cannot play on the playground equipment with their kids.
I emailed Christine Lafontant, District Manager at the County of San Diego Department of Parks and Recreation to ask if this was park policy, her response:
"In regards to the playground, we follow the manufacturer's age limits for each piece of equipment. They are either for 2-5 or 5-12 years olds. Each feature is marked with the ages appropriate for it."
Waterfront Park is beautiful and a great addition to Downtown San Diego. But is this really how we want this public park being operated, private security guards telling parents they aren't allowed to play with their kids? What's the harm in this father teeter-tottering with his son? Or this mother swinging with her small child?
