The San Luis Obispo Manticores traveled to Ventura CA for the first Melee Megabowl put on by the west coast medieval combat community and hosted by Joseph Brandt & the Santa Barbara Soldados.
There were 7 men 5v5 teams for this round robin style tournament. This event was at Promenade park and right across the walkway to the beach! (Yes, we took a needed dip after the tournament)
Between each round/block were 5 amazing femme fighters from different teams that came together and fought hard.
Teams:
-Ordo Draconis (Southern California)
-Santa Barbara Soldados
-Phoenix Blood Eagles
-Sacramento WarPigs
-Cerberus Emissus (Portland)
-Los Angeles Golden Knights
-San Luis Obispo Manticores
Unfortunately injuries dropped our Manticore big rail/tank guys out from this tournament a week before the event. We were fielding 3 brand new fighters with only a few months of armored practice under their belts. We knew it would be tough competition and so our goal was to learn and fight hard.
During the competition 2 Manticore fighters received head injuries and had to drop out which left the new guys and myself to finish the last 2 matchups with only 4 fighters. When there is a 4v5 situation friendly teams will field 5 fighters but only 4 will engage…then as soon as one person goes down their 5th person starts to engage.
We had a great time and learned alot. I’m looking forward to the same event next year and to see our growth as a team.
Thank you to our support crew! We could not do this without you!
Thank you to the marshals for keeping us safe.
Thank you to Joseph Brandt and the Santa Barbara Soldados for hosting. The Golden Knights for transporting and setting up their list for the tournament. And all the teams that attended.

Knights are fighting with a variety of weapons like Longswords, Halberd, Poleaxe, Sword and Buckler, Falchion, Punch Shield, Mace, Handaxe and more.
When a fighter drops their weapon they are not allowed to do anything offensively, only allowed defensive moves, until they get a new weapon from their sides designated area or if carrying a secondary weapon.
“Round Robin” type tournaments are where every team fights each other once. Based on how many people are still standing on the winning team, they will be awarded one point for each person standing. Winner has the most points at end of tournament.
