Not forgotten by me. It came out in the middle of my time at public school. I saw it several times in the ABC Whiteladies through a haze of No 6 smoke.

When people ask me about my school days I refer them to this film as, apart from the ending, it pretty well summed up my school. The teachers and prefects were pretty similar just as the day-to-day discipline was left to the prefects leaving the head master to administer 6 / 12 of the Caine as he felt fit. The school was linked to the local Army cadets so there was plenty of shooting practice. Brilliant film that captured a lot of the reality of school days in the 1960's Lots of "punishments" handed out for the wrong reasons but off-set by the far more numerous occasions when we were not caught breaking the rules.

Now, now. That can't be the case at all. Firstly, this movie is British and made in the 1960s. School shooters usually watch gory movies such as natural born killers. This is, in no way, a cause of shootings.

Agree that none of the columbine shooters or later ever heard of the movie, and Whitman (first school shooting 1966, univ of texas austin). I saw it when it came out in 68. Incredible. All across university land we bought the soundtrack. I still have my LP. Out of print. Sad.
