I As I mentioned before, I had one of these I was working for WTAR, Norfolk at the time when I owned mine and I recorded a lot of audio from the station using my TU-X1 . Here's what it sounds like: kzitem.info/news/bejne/kmZ7yK5msJ16oo4 and kzitem.info/news/bejne/wqCt0ZyosXqFf4I

Hey Tony, I have posted on ak forum a google drive link to documentation for the sansui FA-7 antenna. Please take a look, maybe you can ask the gurus to help build it and resurect this elusive antenna. It is in the sansui au-x1 and tu-x1 thread.

Could you advise the FET type used in the AM RF section? Thank you!

There's a dark but somewhat better photo of the FA-7 on the back page of the G-5700 brochure at hifiengine.

I am surprised that they didn't see fit to use a Balanced Quadrature Sampling Detector (QSD)(Tayloe Direct Conversion) in the AM side to allow you to listen to signals and get rid of the interference.

Probably predates the Tayloe detector. The full quadrature detector is basically as good as you can anyway, and won't spray as much harmonics and subharmonics of 455kHz everywhere too.

I WOULD JUST LOKE TO KNOW WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THE ONKYO INTEGRA LINE FROM 1987 TO 1993. DO YOU THINK THESE WILL BE FUTURE COLLECTABLES OR DO YOU THINK I SHOULD JUST STICK WITH PIONEER SASUI AND AKAI AND THE OTHER VINTAGE AMPLIFERS THAT HAVE A WARMER SOUND BUT NOT NECESSARY THE DRIVE OF THE OLD ONKYOS. THE REASON I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW YOUR THOUGHTS IS CAUSE I LIKE THE EBAY ONKYOS CAUSE THERE AT THE POINT NOW TO WHERE THERE CHEAP AND I CAN BUY 2 OR 3 FOR THE PRICE OF ONE PIONEER SX 970 OR HIGHER. DO YOU THINK IAM WASTING MY MONEY OR SHOULD I JUST HOLD OFF UNTILL IAM ABLE TO SAVE UP ENOUGH FOR LIKE A PIONEER SX 2800 AND ONLY STICK WITH THOSE AMPLIFERS OR HIGHER CAUSE I DO LOVE HIFI FEDILITY BUT I ALSO LOVE THE DRIVE OF THE OLD ONKYOS LIKE THE INTEGRA TX 890 AND MY TX 866 AND TX 870 COUPLED WITH MY EQ 550 OR MY TECHNEICS SH - 8066. OR DO YOU THINK I WOULD BE BETTER OFF JUST SAVING UP FOR A COUPLE OF GOOD OLD WARM AMPLIFERS AND ALSO WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE OLD ONKYO 4500 AND 8500. DO YOU THINK I WOULD BE BETTER OFF WITH A SANSUI OR ARE THE OLD ONKYS JUST AS GOOD. CAUSE IAM REALLY HOOKED ON THE OLD SCHOOL ONKYO DRIVE.

Maybe I missed something, did you demonstrate the am centering meter after the alignment? Cuz it seemed there may have been an issue there going off the first video. And how'd you resolve the 455 kc centering issue? I'll go back and watch again....

Hi Jeff, I don't think you missed anything. I think I may have edited a bit more out than I should have. The meter works, but it still has very little deflection. According to the alignment procedure, there is only one adjustment that affects it and it was set correctly. At this point, I think it just might be the meter, as when I measure the voltage across it, there is a change when I tune off station. As for the filter, it is definitely bad. The center frequency is off by almost 3kHz but the bandwidth is wide enough to drive a truck through. I'm sure this could affect the selectivity of the tuner. I still might try another non-adjustable filter, as I don't think the original will be easy to find. If I decide to try it, I'll most likely do a follow up video if there's enough interest. Thanks for watching!

So how many IF stages are there and how many IF adjustments? How did they get a a narrow bandwidth with one wide bandwidth filter?

Hi! Thanks to you for TU-X1's videos, I have learn a lot. I also have a very nice TU-X1 which was in service and adjust at SS (CT) about 10 years back. That am-meter needle should move like as fm-meter. Your received am-signals/interferences are not strong enough (as you told) and that's why the needle movement is so minor. 73'
