Hi John. Thanks so much for your helpful videos on fixing blow molds. I am going to be repairing my nativity set in about a week. Do you have recommendations on the type of paint to use and techniques? I will be using CitriStrip to strip the paint and your thermal plastic method to repair the cracks and holes. But I haven’t found any good information on painting them. I would appreciate your opinion. Happy New Year!

Hello Diana I'm so glad that I can help. I have included links to all of my supplies in the site description. Please avoid using standard spray can paint because it will block the light from coming through and will look splotchy and shiny. Shiny paint will also degrade the originality of the piece making it look too new. Please use an airbrush for the very best results. I use transparent air brush paint applied with an airbrush. Here is the link: amzn.to/3vccjS4 I also add approximately 45% hardener to the mix to help with adhesion to the HDPE: amzn.to/41J5G5X Let the paint dry for 48 hours for best durability when using hardener. Here is a reasonable basic starter air brush kit to get you started: amzn.to/3vq2cZU I also use super fine steel wool with denatured alcohol to rough up the surface prior to painting. I will be releasing a blowmold air brush tutorial video shortly; it will contain methodology and tips. Thanks so much for watching and have a very happy new year.

I have one more question. Do you have any recommendations on how to create a nose for a nativity angel? Her middle section from her eyebrows to her chin are missing. Thank you.

Hello I would need to see a close up picture of the angels face to determine what reconstruction process to pursue.

Hello John, what do you do with extremely brittle plastic. I have a Dapol snowman from 1972, the mold is in good condition, but it feels brittle compared to the other manufactured. I want to build up, or to strengthen this plastic. Your thoughts and wisdom are needed. Thanks.

i have restored several blow molds myself. citrustrip work VERY well at removing old paint, with hardly any steel wool required. smells like lemons and doesnt hurt the plastic. get it at home depot or lowes. also, "fusion" spray paint for plastic is awesome. adheres to the plastic and light shines thru. of course u paint it at night in the dark and lit, so u can see the light as u paint as to not get it too thick

Hello Thank you for the information. I will definitely get some Citrustrip. I encounter so many different paints and often times struggle with their removal. Thanks for watching.
