Hello everyone, in this video, we will review the different sapodilla varieties we are growing here at the tropical fruit farm in Punta Gorda Florida. Here at my farm, I have about 5 sapodilla trees and I am looking to add more.
Currently, the varieties I have are:
Makok Sapodilla - Native to Thailand - Dwarf Sapodilla
Molix Sapodilla - Native to Mexico
Alano Sapodilla - Native to Thailand
Haysa Sapodilla - Native to Mexico
My makok is already fruiting so maybe in 8-10 months, the fruit will be ready. If you did not know Sapodilla fruit takes a very long time to grow and mature on the tree from flower to fruit. It almost takes a full year.
Sapodilla in Florida can be a very slow-growing tree, but the tree is almost bulletproof in our Florida soils. It is known for needing almost no fertilizer but still producing a ton of fruit all year.
Sapodilla trees are very drought tolerant so in Florida during our dry spells this tree makes an excellent choice because its ability to still grow, flower and fruit need very little care.
If you want a dwarf variety of sapodilla I highly recommend Makok Sapodilla thai variety as it is very dwarf and can be grown and fruited abundantly in containers.
