What type of lap are you using for the cutting process to remove the bulk of the stone?
@JustinKPrim
Жыл бұрын
In this video I’m using a dreamer 360 grit plated and an Adamas 12m though I didn’t like either of these and no longer own them. Now I use a 100 and 600 grit diamond sintered lap. We were selling them for a while but unfortunately because of the war with Russia and Ukraine, we can’t get them anymore.

@@JustinKPrim Thanks for the reply! I use Lap craft 1200 and a worn raytech 260. I have problems with pitting when re-cutting sapphire and need to figure out how to get around it. Got to get me one of these sintered laps. Been hearing lots about them. Cheers!

@@at9362 I think the 1200 is probably the source of your problem. You can’t recut on 1200 you need to go down to 600. Otherwise it rips the hell out of the stone.

I always hear a high pitch sound on your videos. Is this something you hear? This is even when your not touching the lap.

hehe yes I hear it. Its the speed controller and sadly there's nothing to be done about it except by cutting with headphones.

Do you find it annoying? I have been thinking of purchasing this machine.

@@andyaaruckus1219 honestly I don't notice it anymore. It definitely wouldn't stop me from buying the machine. In fact I just ordered a second one. If you get the basic model with no speed control, it doesn't make this noise, but I have found the speed controller to be very handy for when you want to slow down and especially for oxide polishing where a fast spin can throw the polishing powder off the lap.

It’s a dop holder handle that came with my machine. I love it. Before sterling started making this I used to use an old car antenna 😅
