Can I just tell you how grateful I am there are folks like you and Alex who have the vision and resources to rescue and re-imagine amazing properties like this one? Kudos for maintaining the original architectural statement but improving the space planning, raising the ceilings, keeping the heritage casework and, upgrading the envelope and services. Really wonderful "heart and smarts" went into this project. Well done!

I love episodes like this, when you give your design philosophy. I’m a garden designer and the 3 rules that I relied on are form, color and repetition and to dissimilar to the principles you use to design a room.

Oh I have to watch this again there were so many amazing things to look at. More great lights, that rug is to die for, the tables beautiful and I love the antique pieces. I have an antique harvest table and hutch with the same tone of wood. Glad you gave the lesson on wood tones for my own space. My favorite are the dining chairs at Starlight Farm but these are pretty awesome too. KZitem should let us "Like" a million times. See you next time Sarah.

One important factor in using vintage furniture is that it keeps a home from looking like a current furniture store advertisement - which is the reaction I have when all of the pieces are new and matchy-matchy. I enjoy blending old and new frankly, the older pieces are almost always better made and they’re more interesting visually.

Sarah it’s time. Come to my house and fix my old and new design in my lake cottage. I will have to watch this episode again because we are changing my office to a dining room. This coming Wednesday a friend and myself have scheduled the flip and I will endeavor to make you proud. Rearrange the decor in the antique writing desk with glass doors to accommodate China. Hang framed art. Etc. yesterday a friend asked me “what style do you call your decorating“. I busted out laughing then thought and said I guess it’s the Molly Style! But I should have said it is as close the Sarah Richardson as I can afford. You are the best. Thank you thank you thank you. Hugs!

I have traveled the world and lived 8 years in Germany; 2 years in Seoul, South Korea, 3 years in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and 2 years in Cuenca, Ecuador and had collected treasures from each place. 10:09 I retired and downsized to a small 2 bedroom condo and kept very little of “the stuff”. I switched out my two Persian 10’x12 wool rugs for new machine 10’x12’ rug because I now foster older sick dogs. Yes, I can take up my living room rug, take it to a commercial washing machine and it’s clean again. I guess I have found that my life wasn’t about my treasures but quality of living today

Sarah I am a retired Architect Designer and I have followed you for many years. I am now in my mid eighties; but i do keep up on current building materials, fabrics, plumbing supplies. hardware, etc etc.. I love that you opened that ceiling and used the moody white or light putty color. My only question would be why those Dining Room chairs? I know you like Vintage and contempory furnishings but I can not warm up to those Dining Room chairs and am not a fan of the similar counter stools either..If you were intent on using the chairs why not at least mix it up a bit with upholstered Host and Hostess chairs that would serve as anchors on that beautiful long table? I could also see Rattan or even Cerused Rope Chairs with it maybe even hostess and host chairs in the Rope all around that table but that is just my personal opinon. For me the current Dining Room chairs are just too simple and plain. That entire cottage renovation is, as usual, spectular and beautiful; and the Kitchen cabinets and Baths are also stunning. You have so much talent Sarah and it shows in everything you do plus all of it is practical, which is a Godsend especially in a remote cottage. I am enjoying this series , as usual, and look forward to seeing the rest of this series.. You and Alex are a formidable team. My husbands all had to have the talents Alex has or they could not stay married to me long because like you i am usually tearing beautiful old homes apart to update while keeping the flavor of the original dwelling. Sound familar and yes i am still at it alone now in my mid 80s lol lol Keeps me young lol
