Sardine Run Expeditions - www.animalocean.co.za/sardine...

Each year on the sardine run is different and always a challenge, the 2023 season was exceptional due to great visibility and the huge amount of sardines that passed close inshore during June / July. This short video shows you a few moments from our time on the water.
The Sardine Run is a movement of billions of sardines up the East coast of South Africa as some of the population follows the cool water that temporarily extends inshore up the coastline during winter. Once the warm water of the Agulhas current closes in around these fish, they become stressed further pushing them up the coastline as they seek cooler waters. A range of predators pursue the sardines and feast on them along the way.
As divers, we want to be in exactly the right place at the right time, which takes long hours of watching and waiting. Navigating wild seas and being mentally and physically ready to dive in and find the fish. These trips are not for everyone, ts for those who love a challenge and want to see and experience something unique. Each year delivers a different experience, let's hope 2024 lives up to expectations.
