This just takes my breath away.....it is so, so beautiful and so well executed. Is your daughter learning how to do Sashiko? Her idea of adding clouds was spot on. Thank you for making my day beautiful.

This was so enjoyable to watch, and so encouraging! You must have hands of steel to sew through denim, I know how difficult it is. Thank you for showing how you overcame all the difficulties of transferring the pattern, too. Your videos never disappoint.

Oh thank you❤️😊🧵🪡 Stitching on denim was one of my concerns but I must have been used to it. It was not too bad this time. What I struggled was the size and weight of the jacket! Turning around the jacket needed a bit of effort. But it was worth it in the end👍

What an outstanding result! I can see the planning was absolutely necessary to get an even and consistent look to the design. Your daughter’s suggestion for adding clouds really brought everything together. I have some Sashiko pieces that were stitched on an indigo base and I’ve often thought about adding them to upcycled clothing like an appliqué or even boro style. Anyway thank you for sharing this fabulous project 💕

Such a beautiful finished design! It’s so striking! I love the cloud forms you created, they look like a cross between clouds and waves, so they work perfectly! You make it look so delicate and even. (I had a go at recreating Hiroshige’s Great Wave on the back of a denim jacket a while ago - working in such a way to keep both accurate and avoiding rubbing off the guidelines is tricky! I’ve heard from some fabric artists that cutting out the main form on paper and using a UHU glue stick or similar to stick the pattern down while you work on the outlines can work quite well. The glue washes off easily afterwards)

Thank you as always❤️💕 That’s so interesting! I originally didn’t expect the chalk paper to work. My alternative plan was to baste the tracing paper and stitch over it, then to tear the paper at the end. The way you explained is probably better if glue sticks well. Thank you for sharing it!

When I stitched some sashiko on a denim jacket the back was such a mess of threads and knots that I had to cover it with a piece of quilting cotton to act as a lining. It looks great and I don’t catch my fingers on the thread when putting it on.
@thegreenwrapper

Many Sashiko patterns inevitably create loose threads at the back. Adding a lining is one of the good solutions for it👍 ❤️🪡🧵

It could’ve been also a good idea💕 I used a yellow thread on another denim jacket before. It didn’t stand out as much as white but it still looked clear enough. I just started stitching more decorative patterns on denim - before I was only mending with some straight running stitches or cross patterns. I find it incredibly hard to transfer patterns on denim. For straight lines, I use chalk/soap bars, which seems to last long enough for me to stitch through. But curved patterns and circles, oh my god. Can you please share a link to that pencil you used?

Hi! I used some water erasable pens. I don’t seem to have the same ones anymore but they looked pretty general. I found one at a local sewing supply shop and the brand name I think was Adger (I’m not 100% sure). The other one is from Daiso Japan. Both of them were good enough though👍

Is there a specific reason tou chose a double thread? Im worried that with such tight spaces it would stress rhe fabric, even though its light denim.
@thegreenwrapper
5 ай бұрын
Thank you for the question! As I explained in the video, a single thread doesn’t always stand out enough from my experience. However, as you are worried, I also didn’t want to make some areas too crowded. So I only used double strands for the outlines and stitched the details with a single strand. I suppose I had stitched on denim many times now, I was used to managing thread tension. Having said that, I think it’s up to you how you stitch, as this Sashiko is purely ornamental👍
@nunyabisnass1141
5 ай бұрын
@@thegreenwrapper sorry, I asked that before reaching that part of the video. I worry about the tension because many of the denim available here in the USA is kind of weak and abrades easily, so ive had to discreetly reinforce areas of concern with acrylate glue. I'm just afraid I'll cause it to fray. However you did give me a great idea if I ever become so bold, in that one could tighten the scale outline a little to give it a visual texture.
@thegreenwrapper
5 ай бұрын
The denim jacket I used was really solid so I didn’t need to worry about the thread tension so much for this particular project. However, it can contract your garment if it’s hard to manage thread tension. I think it’s very important to be conscious about the combination of thread and fabric. When I feel that my material is too thin for thick threads, then I wouldn’t use double threads. I even use general hand sewing threads (size 30) for thin materials. So it’s really up to your material. If you are worried, I wouldn’t recommend using double strands.🧵🪡 In this video, I stitched on a denim jacket with a single strand⬇️ kzitem.info/news/bejne/uoKbyKRsgpaWlKQsi=V9FXbKb32DrEHoyf
