When i do this kind of work, i roll up a magazine inside the leg of the jeans. It prevents me from sewing the jeans to themselves 😂

@cuthulucups4878
Жыл бұрын
@@chickenleg002 Yeah, it works like a darning egg but bigger! I ran to my sewing stash to try this immediately and this works exactly how my darning eggs do. :) One thing I did a little differently is I shoved a stuffed animal inside my magazine to give it a little more structure since mine was a little on the thin side. I was able to pack it in pretty densely and tape it up which gave me a nice firm cylinder to sew on top of. (I'm sure that with a thicker magazine this wouldn't be necessary.)

I have just discovered sashiko and have fallen in love with the beautiful designs. I am moved by history, too. I tried my first piece and... made a mess of it 😂 I do know enough about craft to know that it takes practice to get proficient at something. I learned a lot from this video and was happy to subscribe. I think the combination of watching good teaching and practising, even if it is not good at first, is the way to go. This is the most beautiful way of mending I’ve seen in a while. With a husband and 4 sons, there’s a lot of mending. I have 2 questions, would this work on socks? And where can I get a metal palm thimble like yours? I’ve only been able to get leather ones. I watch from Perth, Western Australia. Thank you for sharing. 🌹Rosie of Oz🇦🇺 & 🐶Omega the Cavalier🐶
@thegreenwrapper
Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for your comment😻 I’ve seen Sashiko mending on socks before but I haven’t tried myself yet. The one I’ve seen had a small patch and stitches on it. One thing I need to mention is that the Sashiko stitches prevent the material from stretching. That means the socks can loose the stretch…so I recommend mending just a small area but not on the whole sock if you are going to try it. There is another visible mending video I’ve done before with a small round patch. I feel that this may work better on socks. kzitem.info/news/bejne/mZmk4IWKend7YJg But I should try to do a video to see if it works in socks! As to the metal thimble, probably Amazon or Etsy are the easiest place to get. But again, I have a video about making one by yourself using a covered button kit. (I’m in Australia too and I struggled to find one as well!) kzitem.info/news/bejne/yWmdzn-BbohmfGk I hope it helps! Thank you so much for watching my video❤️

What kind of material do u put underneath the hole? Is it a stretchable material or materials that do not fray. Or does that even matter
@thegreenwrapper
Жыл бұрын
Thank you for asking! I used a piece of plain cotton quilting fabric. You can also use denim (thicker fabric is harder to stitch though). But I wouldn’t use stretchable material because the purpose of this method with a lot of stitches is to ‘prevent from stretching further’. In other words, this is not for tight jeans. If you need some stretch, it’s better not to use this method. I hope this help😊

Thank you for the question😊 Yes, it’s a Sashiko thimble. We often use a long needle for Sashiko and the thimble helps to hold and push the needle. The one I was wearing in this video is from Clover. The product name is Adjustable Ring Thimble With Plate.
