Did you know that mercury vapor is an HID light source, high intensity discharge. That is electric jumping the gap between two electrodes and forming an arc to generate light. To put it into perspective, if you remember the movie Speed, the bus does the bus jump across the gap in the freeway. Well, when you think about HID lamps, the electric is doing the Speed bus jump in a mercury vapor and forming an arc discharge which in turn generates light. Fluorescent tubes work that way too. Even neon signs work that way as well, like the "open" signs that you see at stores. Even the Xenon strobes on fire alarms use Xenon discharge tubes that work in the exact same manner. Electric jumping the gap between two electrodes, just like the Speed bus jump scene, and forming an arc discharge and generating light through an arc discharge.

But how does this work with a fluorescent induction light bulb? No obvious electrodes.

Nice find on those merc bulbs. I recently bought a Hygrade 100W HPS bulb and it works well. Nowhere near as good priced as the clearance deal you got for your bulbs. Thanks for the great content!! 👍
