I wish you would've shown at least a little part of how you cleaned it out. And also shown a little of actually putting the head gasket on. Did you clean both surfaces really good or just take the old one off and put the new one on? But thanks for posting this. I didn't realize how much went into replacing it. What would this normally charge at a shop?

I will try to expound further.The bottom crank gear which drives the oil pump which is part of the timing cover must stay put when removing the timing cover.So what you are doing with the screwdriver is holding the crank gear in place when removing the timing cover.

yeah, well it started. Runs like crap. Can`t keep it running. so I changed out plugs and wires. Still the same. wires are lined up at top 1,2,3,4 and 4,1,2,3 for the coil packs. Still the same. Compression check came back 210 for cylinder 1, 2, and 4 A big fat 0 for No.3. brought no.3 to TDC then ran air through hole. Air is escaping through the throttle body but not exhaust. Any ideas ? Bad intake valves ?
@SaturnMan2012

Well everything lined up after I torqued it all down. I got the TC back on. that was my biggest fear of the whole job given fact of minimal clearance and since I never used gasket maker of any kind. Went better than i thought. all pulley's and brackets are on now i`ll just do one last acetone cleaning for the valve cover and then prime the engine and see if it runs better !!!!!!

After further analysis. The DOHC crank sprocket is further away on most pics. I've seen, including mine. The SOHC crank sprocket seems to be up against the block. why the difference I`m not sure. This explains why it`s easier to get that cover back on a SOHC. I think I'm going to take take the water pump off. BTW, My chain measured at 23.75 inches. well over a half inch of the service limit. Thank god my valves are still good.

I found broken bits of Teflon in the bottom of the oil pan first. I figured it was from the guides. So I just pulled the cover off. Now the sprocket is about a good inch off the block. And I can not get it to move. i have not really pulled or pushed on it with any hard force though. in your video yours looks like it`s flush with the block. I took off the tensioner plunger and it was stuck/sealed wide open. Could not close it.

OK, I think I fixed it. I just took everything off. I then took off the exhaust cam and repositioned it to the 12 o'clock position. then put everything back together and now I get as many revolutions as I want. does this sound correct ? or was it wrong for me to take the cam shaft off ? thanks Rich.

Hey Rich. what is the clearance supposed to be for the crankshaft sprocket to the block. I seem to have a much larger gap on my 98 sl2 DOHC. And tool I use to take it off, do I use the same tool to put it back on properly ? Thanks. I`m going to click some adds like 15 times right now.

well kinda, the exhaust cam sprocket is more like at the 11:58 mark. when I get everything torqued down and the kit installed and lined up I turn it two revolutions all the lines stay perfect but the colored links our now on different teeth.
