It was mission impossible to find a video worth watching. Thanks for the good Q Unbelievably loud engine! 3rd loudest sound on our planet if I'm not mistaken...Second being a thermonuclear blast...First being a meteor strike.

When America smiled and 7.63 million pounds of thrust at 220 decibels shook the earth for miles in any direction. Those Saturn V rocket engines by Rocketdyne were masterpieces of engineering produced entirely by the marriage of engineers and technicians using mathematical formulas and slide rules who worked long hours to overcome a myriad of technical hurdles before our journey to the moon in 1969. As a side note, those 5 engines consumed over 20 tons of Liquid Oxygen and Kerosene every second and lifted over 6 million resting pounds to 40 miles high at a mean velocity exceeding 6000 miles per hour before 2nd stage burn !

I am not 100% sure but I think that this is the test at 110% of rated thrust. That would put this test at 8.25 million lbs thrust.

how the fuck could that test stand hold on to that beast of an engine? if the noise wouldn't kill you or damage your hearing to where you're permanently deaf id give anything to be inside the test stand where I can see all 5 F1 engines roar to life while being at a safe enough spot

Fun fact: At 3:53 (and other times) the darker flames are actually gas that is cooler than the following exhaust flames

Can someone explain the start sequence? It looks like only LOX enters the nozzle first. Thanks!

This start sequence for the f1 engine confirms lox enters the nozzle first. history.nasa.gov/SP-4206/p111.htm however i think the oxidizer fuel ratio is like 3/1 so there's plenty more lox than fuel, besides lox generates mist and vapor when it is released so it is more visible.

+Augusto Pacheco all 5 F1 engines at takeoff power damage buildings as far away as 5 miles just from the noise. they can generate 230 decibels and it only takes 195 to kill a person. that's why they use water as sound suppression
