If you land more laterally on your forefoot then the plate in the Pro 3 will help you land squarely across the forefoot and use the full rocker, whereas the flexibility of the speed is probably resulting in a thin line of foam compressing under the lateral side or the foot and the rocker being essentially bypassed because the foam has compressed too far

Great insights. Very unfortunate it didn’t work out for the ES3 for you. Had a totally different experience as I’ve had a very pleasant one for ES3. It got better in terms of cushioning and stability compared to the ES2 and ES1… and I really liked both previous versions. Put 500 miles on my pair on my Speed 3’s and I have to say. I feel like the Endorphin Speed 3 is my favorite running shoe I’ve owned. It’s such a top notch “this shoe does whatever you want it to”. Jack of all trades shoe. Tempo, long run (for me that’s a half marathon), short run (any garden variety of 5 or 10k), sprints. I’ve used the Speed 3’s for it all and they have felt great and served me exceedingly well. Enough cushion to be your daily trainer yet lightweight and fast enough to push on your faster/tempo runs. It can do it all. Not tryna sell the damn shoe but I’ve been that impressed by it.

Kofusi, I have 365km in my pair of Saucony Endorphin Speed 3 and have noticed the hot spot issue, although not to the extent that you have felt. I originally started using them for my long runs, but they didn't work out. I still use them for my easy runs and they are fine, but the insole is just awful. I have had issues with the insoles on other Endorphin shoes, but nothing like with the Speed 3. I ended up cutting a significant part of the toe of the insole, so the arch support lines up with my foot and then have to push it forward everytime I put the shoe on. I now do my long runs in a pair of Saucony Triumph 20, and this is simply not an issue, as it is with the Speed 3. I have over 650km in a pair of Speed 2s and 1096km and 860km in 2 pair of the original Speeds. My honest opinion is the Speed 3 are similar, but definitely not the same shoe as the earlier versions and I doubt I will buy another pair. As you can see, I am not a casual user of the Endorphin Speed, with over 2600km combined in 3 pair of the 1 and 2, but my greatest fear was realised when I got the Speed 3, that is Saucony ruined them in an attempt to differentiate them from the Pro 3. I turn 64 yo in a week and a half and I am getting a pair of pink Pro 3, so I'm not off the Endorphin range, just disappointed with what Saucony did to the Speed 3. Thanks for the video.
@mickyward3716

I found the Triumph 20 to be a over all better shoe. I returned the speed 3 as I found the upper wasen't plush enough for my liking and I also found the plate didn't do much in terms of purpulsion but rather just botherd my foot. The Triumph hugs my foot in all the right places and is much more comfortable while maintaining breathability. The midsole is almost identical this iteration between power run + and PB and with the weight loss of the Triumph the ride is very very similar.

I think this will go down as one of the most versatile shoes in history. That said I also had some weird feelings in only my right foot at first. That said, I just passed 50 miles this weekend after completing a 10 mile race in which I ran at my HM pace and didn’t have a single issue with hot spots. For me the hot spot actually is only for the first mile or two then works it’s way out. It’s also gotten better and better with each run, I think it just has a looooong break in period. Going from Endo Speed 1 to the 3, the main thing I have noticed is the play/give in the upper. And I think this could explain the hotspot issue. If one of your feet is slightly smaller or not as tall as the other, the upper is allowing that foot to move around just a bit more than that foot would like. I experienced this in the V1 in the heel, where if I didn't really lock the shoes down, I get a rubbing on my left heel. Overtime it finally wore a hole in the heel padding in the left shoe, so I retired them at 530KM. I have about 10KM in the Speed 3 so far as easy KMs, but I plan to tighten the shoe just a bit more than I normally would and hope that the upper doesn't start to cause too much play as I start to use it on 20KM+ long runs.

I experienced the same issue on a 16K@MP. My right foot was fine, but my left foot was hot at the bottom of the foot at position where the metatarsals meet the phalanges. I have a Morton's Neuroma, on my right foot, which necessitates that I find a lockdown without overtightening the front-most part of the lacing. The toe box is a little larger in the Speed 3, which encouraged me to cinch down the front of my left foot, which caused the issue. The following run, I tightened the left foot less, similar to my right foot, and the hot spot vanished.
@jenniferring6410

I loved the Speed 2 - The only change I was hoping for in v3 was that the toe box would be slightly roomier. I started to take my new 3's out for a threshold workout yesterday and right away they felt WAY squishier than the 2's. I also have the Tempus so I'm familiar with the PB foam but for some reason this shoe was so marshmallowy. I also have been trying to keep an insertional achilles tendonitis and PF at bay through my marathon training - it's finally subsided but I felt an immediate pain in my right heel so I turned around and switched them out for my Guides. I would have put my 2's on for this workout but they're pretty much worn out. I also felt like the speedroll was a little more forward than the 2's (late stage being the term I guess) but I wonder if that's just my imagination. I'm taking them to the treadmill today for a short optional run just to feel them out without a specific workout on the books to see if they start making more sense for me. Otherwise, I'm almost wishing I had picked up a pair of 2's on sale but maybe in a half-size up to fix the toe box issue.
@weuek
10 ай бұрын
The toebox issue will never be fixed, as it makes the shoe look ugly, i.e. unfashionable. I cut holes in the toebox, but they only help on short distances. The other day I did a 10k race (that's very short for me), but then spent half a day walking in the shoes and I got beautiful blisters (as I normally do in torpedo-shaped shoes). Unfortunately, I don't have torpedo-shaped feet, so pointy shoes don't fit me.

Great work on the review Ko ! I had a pair of Speed V1's and loved them, everything worked so well, true to size UK6. I then bought a Pair of V2's on sale and some V3's when they released. I ran a couple of half marathons in the V2's and had exactly the same issue. I don't know what the problem was but after around 10k's my right foot started to ache, hotspots, to then point where I was adjusting my gait and landed up with a bruised nail and painful all across the metatarsals. I figured it was just the upper/lockdown/width ?? and because i'm a believer, bought the V3's in the hope they would just work, be more plush - but alas, this was not the case. Really gutted that this happened to me and landed up switching to my Vaporfly's for the remainder of my summer races and training in my Mach4's. I thought it was just me and wanted that same V1 feeling, but interesting that it is not only me.

I don't have any hotspots or discomfort, but I will say that I like v1 and v2 better. I feel like Saucony removed the magic from this shoe by trying to make it more for the masses. I like the laces on the 3. My 2s only have 100mi on them but look like they've done 500. The flat laces have frayed due to all the friction, the color way has all bled together and the upper just looks all misshapen. The 3s feel like putting on a luxury car instead of a warn out beater, I've already put more miles in them than the 2s. I do think I preferred the ride in the 1s, but I definitely like the 3s over the 2s personally.

Even Saucony did not reply to my issues. I have a pair of Speed 2's with over 500 miles in them, many of which where painful, I thought it was my fault ie running form etc, until I saw a specialist & he did gait checks, looked at the my running style and form and he was brutal about the Saucony Shoes, have not used them since. I think the worst part about the speed 3 is that it almost has a identical midsole to the pro 3 yet it feels dead because of no carbon fiber plate… it should be a crime to not put that kind of plate in the midsole the speed 3 has… also the pro 3 has waaay more rubber. The pro 3 has a waaay more lively of a ride. More breathable,better laces… and one of the most important things is the back ankle fits more secure imo then the speed 3 does. I wouldn’t recommend the speed 3 to anybody. I know people are going to “not want a super shoe” but seriously just buy the pro 3… even for your non hardcore miles. I run in the pro 3 a couple miles a day … even walk. It’s better in every way then the speed 3. The same thing happened to me with Speed v2, at around mile 9. Very painful around the ball of my foot. I tried again, and the same thing happened. However, I also bought a half-sized-down version, and it worked perfectly with no issues. With Speed v3, I went back to my original size and so far no problem. Maybe try different sizes and see...?

I absolutely love my endorphins speed 2. The pro -3; Sat Ran 8 treadmill miles and they were okay. Sun ran 16 road miles. They were awful. I felt pings & pains all over my legs & feet. Legs didn’t feel fresh. Not my favorite. Love the color.

Not to alarm anyone. But I think Sketchers just out Cloud' On Cloud shoes. Wait for it (deep breath) the Sketchers Go Run Swirl Tech, made with hyperburst foam is a better shoe than the On Cloud Monster. Change my mind.

I had the same problem with Asics Novablast 3. I gave this one completely up. It was even worse than your experience with E. speed 3. I couldn't finish my 5 km run in these shoes for the same reason. Something was hurting my forefoot in the left shoe. I got rid of it. I don't think I will purchase a new pair.

Only person on the planet that thought the Speed V1/V2 were just meh and overpriced. Definitely to tight in the toebox and I had traction issues on my morning runs with the humidity so high in South GA. Shoes were always slipping on the roads. I am loving the Pro 3 but think I'll just keep using the Prime X for longer marathon mile runs/workouts.

I tend to have hot spots with pretty much all shoes till my feed adjust to the shoe, with Speed 3 this process was quite quick compared to other shoes in the past. p.s. I remember having this issue for the first time with Altra Torin 2.5 and you also got that.

I had a similar issue during a recent half marathon race I ran as a tune-up for the upcoming Philly Marathon. The course had a series of rolling hills too, so I don't know if that affected anything. It's definitely more stable than previous versions, but I don't think it's an option for my first marathon, looking hard at the Adios Pro 3s now.

It really does feel close to the pavement as you roll through the toes. Fine with me as long it doesn't pack down over the miles. Nylon plate seems to go unnoticed, as you mention. Overall, I enjoy as an occassional trainer. Pretty cool

it's a great shoe. I just wish it didn't give me that foot pain. I'll be testing to see what kind of runs I can get away with in them, as I do enjoy the shoe when it's not hurting my foot

With all your marathons comming up, are you able to talk about nutrition again? I noticed you used to take clif shots but are now more into the maurten gels. I also run on the lower end of "normal" for my sodium levels (according to my labs everytime), so it would be kool to see whats changed for you with all these marathons and your impressive achievement of a sub 3 hour marathon.

I got both and been rotating them- if you have already done a lot of running get the speed 3. If you just building your base get the nova. But do tempo but the speed is more peppy/fast and nova more easy

Sauconys insole is pretty slick.. that is the reason for the hotspots. I really love their insoles but cant use them for everything. Try something a bit more coarse.. like novablast 3 insole or nimbus 24, super heavy the nimbus one though.. but both will give you less glide and will probably resolve the hotspot.

I haven't tried the 3 but the 2 was a nightmare for my feet. I was taken back because I had heard/read so many positive things about that shoe. Started out with some minor hot spots on both feet. I thought maybe they needed a short break in period, but was wrong. The hotspots turned into my feet going numb after 5 miles in those shoes. I have never had this problem with any other shoes. Definitely will pass on the 3, and kind of avoiding Saucony alltogether now. I was relieved a little to hear that I wasn't the only one not getting along with the E Speeds. Have you tried the ASICS Magic Speed 2 yet? I liked the 1.

I had a similar experience with Clifton 8. everyone raves about them, but just shocking for me personally - caused blisters, rubbed my arch painfully, and gave me extensor tendonitis. Meanwhile, the Endorphin Speed 3 (and 1 and 2) is amazing. I think some shoes just suit certain feet and running styles and not others.

Think you’ve just been unlucky. I did a very undulating half marathon a couple of weeks ago in my speed 3’s and they were excellent even getting me a pb. Prior to this my longest run in them was 7 miles so it was a bit of a gamble going to 13.1 but one I don’t regret.

I had the exact problem while training for marathon around 18-20 mile point the hotspot developed on the right foot, I was close to date of houston marathon and tried different shoes as well as I was dreading to run in these for the entire marathon. Don’t get me wrong they are fabulous and my favorite for 10mile run, anyways in the end I deformed not to change shoes right before marathon and ended up running in same shoes, there was hot spot developed again but I pushed through. I see ppl are suggesting to change insole, I’d like to try that, any recommendations on type or brand of insole?

I love the way this feels underfoot, but the way the heel curves slightly inward puts pressure on both of my Achilles tendons, so, unfortunately, I don’t think I’ll be able to use it either! Never had this problem with a Saucony shoe before.

I really didn’t like any of the updates to the pro and speed at all! I personally had a really hard time with a none performance upper on a performance platform I felt like the fit was not dialed in and the super stretchy laces made it really hard to get any type of lock down on the foot. My foot isn’t narrow at all. The upper almost feels cheaper and plastic, and I say almost because it isn’t cheap materials it just feels that way. As far as the rocker geometry, it seem like you are catching the apex our your foot strike isn’t working with that rocker, which happens to a lot of people. I know the carbon X 3 almost had to aggressive of a beveled heel and it almost feel like thought rear foot to midfoot that transition is way to quick for my foot. It’s a subtle change but would explain why you feel that way

I never could use the earlier versions and started getting same issue in the 3rd version of the endorphin pro..I changed to a regular saucony insole and that seems to have cured it..but I felt like the endorphin pro 3 didn't roll as well as I hoped..it is very comfortable but seems like it takes more energy to push the pace..almost identical to the NB elite V2 with more stack..in my experience these new foams are really finicky about the weight and running form of the individual runner..too soft wears you out and too hard beats you up..so far only the alphafly V1 (with a heel pad) works the best for me when the mileage gets over 10mi or so..I was able make the vaporfly work for me up to 10k by putting a forefoot pad under the insole ..it changes the drop and stops that pain you are getting under the metatarsal area of your foot..if they put 3mm under the forefoot and use the upper and outsole from the alphafly it might be nearly perfect..the changes I made make it my best 5-10k race shoe..

I’m finding heel counter is digging into my left heel & achilles but not my right (when I walk in it not while running). Didn’t have any issues w prev models but lockdown is better in this version. Overall, I prefer the v3 ride over v2 but the v3 upper and tongue material feel warmer IMO. That’s fine for fall but prefer material they used in v1 and even v2 for breathability.
