The Suacony Kinvara has a long and tried lineage. The new 11 falls in line with the last few versions, but strays a bit further from its origins. Regardless, many will like the changes towards a more responsive tempo star and away from a softer trainer with plenty of fast ground feel. If you're run in the 11s, let us know your thoughts below!

The Kinvara = Saucony's Clifton which lets face it hasn't been ever as good as that first shoe. I'm with you Ethan, a shoe that gets heavier each generation is just wrong and at some point you have to say "enough guys - its not the same shoe model any more."

Even for shoes like this one that you don't care for it helps me out. Where you want soft, I tend to want responsive. Based on that and how much fun I've had in my Kinvara 9 I'll probably pick up a pair of the 10 or 11 when I need a new road shoe. I'm sorry one of your favorite shoe lines has changed but keep doing the reviews man, you are my go to shoe guy even if I tend to lean towards the shoes you aren't crazy about.

I have a question and I hope that Ethan sees this. My question is simply, do any of the major shoe brands ever respond to your reviews? You are obviously impacting their sales, either positively or negatively based upon your reviews. Some will rush out and buy a pair of kicks if you give them a major thumbs-up, that's just a fact. So the obvious question to me is do they pay attention to your critiques? Have they ever indicated they hear you loud and clear and that your review has caused them to re-evaluate a design? It seems to me that when a shoe such as this strays so far away from the initial offering that is has morphed into a completely different shoe, and there remains a segment of the shoe-buying public that lusts after the original it would be to their benefit to re-introduce a model that is closer to the first.
@TheGingerRunner
4 жыл бұрын
Ray Jaegers yes, absolutely! I get emails from manufacturers often after reviews. Many are receptive to critiques, some are less so. If any changes go into their future plans based on my opinions (and those of viewers in the comments) they won’t be implemented for at least 1 or 2 versions of the shoe. Ex: if I’m reviewing the Kinvara 11, saucony is already workin on the Kinvara 13-14, so we won’t see much until then - but a lot of time, it’s the smaller brands that listen. Big brands have big departments with teams of designers and 3RD party feedback loops. Hard to move a big ship quickly. I’ll keep trying, haha!

I'm probably part of the few that actually really liked the Kinvara 10's design. I've never tried the former versions, but what seems to be one of people's main complaints is kind of a plus to me. I really enjoyed the 10th version especially because of the mid/everun sole. It's a bit firmer than others and thanks to that I find it incredibly snappy and responsive. Based on my exp, it's unmatched for HIIT and strength/sprint training, it's probably the only shoe I've run in that doesn't slip, nor move an inch even if I want to sprint in corners, it stays in place and lets me immediately feel how much force I'm pushing on the ground when I want to go fast. It fits so well that I can hardly tell it's there. It's not Nikey levels of comfort, ofc, but even though I like their smoothness and just overall light feel, I've never been a fan of nike's mushy/squishy mid sole, I hate it on tight circuits with corners because it always makes the heels slip. Though I must say some major flaws of the kinvaras are the rear cushioning, it ripped apart after only a couple of runs (legit made a hole between the cushion fabrics) and the fact that it's noisy (which I can basically confirm). I'd still buy it again though because there's nothing else that I found as stable as them. Edit: yeah, also definitely not a fan of the 11's design lmao.

The Kinvara 11s are the first Kinvara's I've bought and they fit really well, are comfortable out of the box, are soft around the heel cup and have a soft tongue. It's just the fit that is perfect - compared to Hokas, etc., I just find them immediately comfortable with no heel slippage and correct room in the forefoot and a nice lock down. There''s only 4mm drop so you're calves are stretched, you get lots of ground feel and a little cushion. I don't find them fast or snappy when you compare them to what is on the market these days. Compared to say the Endorphin Speed these are miles off the pace. I use them as a daily trainer but I am lighter man who does about 80 miles a week, so my body is used to it. I would never use as a race shoe.

I've had the Kinvara 4 and 6 in the past. Love the heel pods in Kinvara 4 which give good heel lock to my feet and it was ProLock-less. Kinvara 6 was a bad fit for me as my heel keep slipping up no matter how tight the lacing and ProLock numbed my feet, hated it. Got my hands on the Kinvara 10 lately when it was on sale and it reminded me of my ex-lover, the Virrata...if you guys remember her. I felt Kinvara 10 was a blend of Kinvara and Virrata; no ProLock, only tiny bit of rubber outsole on the heel and forefoot, relatively narrow but stretchable toebox. I wanted the Kinvara 10 instead of the 11 because it had heel pods which I love and no bloody ProLock.

The Ghost for me wasn't breathable enough and the 880v10's were hitting my bone spur in the achilles too hard. Also if you had a shoe in mind from another company other than Saucony that you think is better id really like to know. Thanks for your time

Those are the exact same kinvaras I own. Same colors too. I like my orange 10s a little bit better than my blue 11s

This is an interesting view on Kinvara. Versions 10 and especially 11 were quite widely regarded as more SOFT versions compared to their predecessors, to the point that some reviewers (kofuzi) stated that Kinvara is no longer that kind of racy shoe, but more like a softer yet speedy daily trainer. I believe that in the era of softer foams and Hoka hype Kinvara just doesn't feel as soft. The newest version, 12 hit the opposite spot and multiple reviewers (e.g. Doctors of Running) say that it's been "back to roots", again becoming the race-ready trainer. To sum up, it's so subjective as we all seem to ground our point based on different experience, attitude and even mood and relationship story with the shoe.

Loved the 5s, 6 didn’t work for me, 7s were nice and I’m still in my 9s (full of holes and totally worn out). 11s on the way...fingers crossed!

I'm using a Hoka Clifton 6 (after your review :-)) as my training shoe for my 1st half marathon. Was thinking of getting the Saucony for race day but because of the weight I'm going for the Rincon

Ethan. My 2 favorite Kinvaras were the 6 and the 8. Unfortunately, I can't find the 8s anywhere anymore! Any suggestions of where to find them besides the obvious ones? Also, what would you say, if you have one, is your favorite version of the Kinvara?

I loved my time in the Kinvara 5. I hated the 6 and since moved on. With the Rincon, I don't see a reason to revisit the Kinvara and I'd rather try the Beacon before the K11. Sometimes you just have good nostalgic memories with a shoe and then the f it up and you move on. Sounds like it's time for you to do the same...

Loved the 5, 6, and 7. Skipped the 8. 9 and 10...meh! Saucony is getting more narrow on the midsole and they now have started causing gate and foot issues for me. Will skip the 11 and stick with my Torin 4’s. Speaking of loud! You sound like a creaking door in the Torin! I’ve had two 4’s, and they both have the same issue.

I totally disagree with the negative aspect of it being heavier. The shoe is still light. The problem with the Kinvara is that it feels too good to run in. People end up as you did with the first one, training too much in a shoe that gives you too much impact. I see it time and time again. Customers that only train in a light shoe like the Kinvara get injured easier because they don't get enough cushioning. By making it heavier, this is less of an issue and you still get a lighter feel compared to long-distance trainers.

I've just had to retire my last pair of 8's. Sob. I'm OK with the 9's but it's not great and only purchased 2 pairs, I've got a single pair of the 10's and it'll be the only pair I buy. I loved the comfy, low drop cushion of the earlier versions but 9 onwards it's nearly an A9 - and I don't want a racing flat. With a wide foot I've limited choice but I'm assuming I'm going back to the Hoka Clifton for the longer runs, another shoe thats getting worse as they muck about with what was a great shoe. Why are the companies fubar'ing their great(est) shoes!

My last Kinvara was Kinvara 8 and it had a lot to love and like. Just got the 11. Its boring, stiff, heavier and has a 'sneaker' rather than a runner feel. This has kinda ruined my love for the original Kinvara.

I think Kinvara 3 was one of the best shoes ever. Didn't put 2000 into mine (wow how'd the upper last that long) probably 1000 and loved em from beginning to end

I was curious to see what the new model felt like. Meh, disappointed. They had struck a perfect balance between snappiness and cushion with the 7/8, why the hell didn't they just upgrade the upper/fit from there, ffs? Now, as you say, they might as well increase stack height, remove the Fastwitch from production and cram a carbon plate in there.
