small correction of a hard to read scene: nobody hired Saul to go help Badger. Saul went to the precinct to con his way to see new perps and pick up business. that's why he first reads Badger an incorrect file about public maturbation. he's fishing to see what Badger is charged with, then he gives Badger his card and tells him how to hire him. ❤ the channel!
@briangonigal3974
8 ай бұрын
Sounds good, but unfortunately no, definitely NOT the case. After talking to Badger and right before running into Hank, Saul can be seen talking on his little Bluetooth headset asking Freanchesca “where’s my mastubator? You got me all turned around here!”, indicating there really was a public masturbation client he thought he was meeting. But more significantly, once Badger corrects him and says “No, I was the guy who was selling meth, …allegedly.”, Saul then reaches back into his briefcase and pulls out ANOTHER file, starts reading, and says “Oh, yeah…, and a felony quantity!”, showing he really *Did* have Badger’s case file, or arrest report, or *Something* already in his briefcase and already had some additional knowledge about the case. Badger may well have just glanced over at the bench and made note of Saul’s number as he was being cuffed, but it’s also possible that like Jesse, he already knew of Saul by reputation and that he was THE GUY to call if you were ever in this sort of jam.

@briangonigal3974 good read re: him pulling out a 2nd document and him loudly saying so that the cops could hear "you got me turned around here!" he doesn't then continue to find the masturbator. plus the show he makes of "this is my reason for visiting the wrong perp" within earshot of police and Hank (who he knows) reads as part of the con. we know badger didn't call him, coz we never see badger clock the bench ad, and he's visibly confused when the celeb attorney enters the room. we know Jesse didn't call him because when discussing Saul w/ Walt they're both different levels of apprehensive and Jesse says "would" hire, not "did" hire, and if it was Jesse, from a writing standpoint, you'd definitely explicitly say who hired him. plus, why include the game of mistaking Badger's file? either to show Saul sucks, or to show he's up to something. the rest of the episode establishes he doesn't suck. so that scene means he's up to something. without putting the scene on now, if Saul has Badger's name, he most likely went there fishing for his business, having conned the info from someone. if he only took out a file after Badger said "I sold meth", then possession logically comes with intent to sell. if someone hired him and he did have a real separate indecency perp to visit, there's no reason for the whole wacky confusing introduction. he'd just see Brandon, they'd talk about Jesse, or Badger would at least not be surprised and confused. the scene doesn't make sense if Saul "I am a con artist" Goodman was being truthful and being by the book there. spoilers for BCS, the guy bribes ppl for case files using beanie babies.

Peopl saying certain episodes are "lul" or "slow" do not understand that they are crucial to the world building and context of the show. The "good" episodes they think about would not be as good without the other "filler" episodes. Those episodes are actually the ones that set this show apart from the other ones, and make it such a masterpiece. You get to know the characters and their surroundings a lot better, so you care more about what happens to them.

The Peekaboo episode was great for that, exposing the horrors these drugs can bring... Many scenes of the show give a feel of "Making drugs is cool, it's easy money and you're a total badass!", but Peekaboo brings people down to earth. I think "Peekaboo" is a damn strong episode of season 2 - and of the whole show TBH. But yes, with this episode "Better Call Saul", the season really kicks of. And glad to hear you already have the show "Better Call Saul" on your radar. It's as great as "Breaking Bad", with just the right mix of Breaking Bad heritage and original new ideas. P.S.: "The Godfather" is a classic for a reason. Highly (!) recommended.
@jxsh03

I completely understand why people say "this is where the season kicks off" when reaching the more exciting episodes but I also think Breaking Bad does what a lot of other shows dont bother doing and shows the "downtime" and consequences to the impactful moments (focuses on character building) and it does it so well that it feels just as important and engaging as the intense action moments/episodes. The way the show is structured allows the less adrenaline filled/more dialogue heavy moments to still feel tense and it gives every really impactful moment proper room to breathe.
@mrtveye6682

@@jxsh03 I'm a 100% with you. BB takes it's time when it's needed to properly set up storylines and develop character. That's one of the reasons the show is one of the best ever made. They really care about the storytelling and their characters, something a lot of shows skip over way to much in favour of cheep thrills or to squeeze some ideas that don't really fit into the plots. I still think season 1 is fantastic, I'm not so much a "it get's better from season to season"-guy, I think there are absolute highlight in every single season, and a few "real good, but not great"-episodes too. What I wanted to say is more like, I have the feeling in the 1st half of season 2, they have been in a little "finding the direction the show should turn to in the long run"-phase. And still, season 2 is a real good season, even the 1st half. The whole outcome of the Tuco storyline IMO was done great. And as mentioned, for me "Peekaboo" is one of the best episodes of the whole show.

@ZenShroud1 "the scarface problem" has always been endemic in film, but for the most part only in escapist kinda disposable film. there's more to it. but in tv once hbo started prestige tv which is perceived to be kinda literary or like "about real life", The Sopranos and to a lesser extent Mad Men revitalized the Scarface problem by giving whichever monster protagonist the feeling to casual viewers that this is a "great man", partly because of episodic writing. **spoilers spoilers spoilers for BB, Sopranos and Mad Men** all 3 shows end with the destructive sociopath protagonist (*not* hero) "paying for their sins" in ways where they actually aren't shown suffering, or they get to determine how they suffer in a way that inadvertently makes them cooler, or they're even elevated because of their long-deserved punishment. Walter White isn't supposed to be on t-shirts, but Vince & Co do some tropes just out of filmic muscle memory that code Walt as a noble survivor genius. that's why almost immediately Camino comes out, starting as an extension of the finale episode, and it's a visceral mega-empowerment of Jesse who was meant to be but not thought to be the good guy protagonist. BCS is dedicated to building up Saul to ultimately be 1 BB character who actually shows bravery and sacrifice (of his deal w/ the DA in the finale) to do the actual right thing, actually look out for his loved one (Kim), and actually take accountability and actually stay alive to pay the price (prison essentially for life). Both works are explicitly going out of their way to show better examples of "being a man/doing what you have to" in male antiheroes. At the same time too as BCS, HBO's Barry *spoilers spoilers spoilers* does the exact same thing, a masterpiece subversive much much more challenging show that goes out of its way to make you think a monster is one of these hero fantasy noble sinners, to finally complete condemn and repudiate Barry along with the mechanism that has come to bolster these corrosive antihero tropes: the modern masculine entertainment machine, whether escapist or prestige tv or film. The Barry and BCS finales happened months apart, and all this was going on in a post TLJ climate. Something in the air about subverting individualistic gutsy "do what i gotta do" antiheroes.
