I'm first native, and I love my white friends. I don't hate them because of something their ancestors did to my ancestors, decades before I was even born. Ancestors, by the way, that I know nothing about or have no attachment to. To hold grudges, is to spit in the faces of the fallen. The ones who died, probably died wanting to put an end to this kind of hatred, to this kind of bigotry. Yet self righteous little social justice warriors have the arrogance to walk all over that history. If only our ancestors were alive today to see some of this behavior. Fucking disgraceful. Interviewer: "How do we get rid of racism?" Morgan Freeman: "Stop talking about it."

This song really fits the unforgiving, hateful, cruel nature of war. Especially the sky becoming BLOOD RED during the song, reflecting the seething rage and hate burning in each other's hearts and the HORRORS that will follow suit from the war. All set up to a thunderous, hate-filled drum music and both the Natives and the Settlers yelling their verses with mutual grudge. It all ends with Pocahontas' big, desperate: "NO!" as she rushes up in time to save her lover from his would-be execution, only after this song climaxed in a crescendo of burning fury, convincing her father to put a stop to all of this madness in order to prevent its grim, horrid outcome for both factions.

Can I just point one thing out: Englishmen Version: They're not like you and me, which means *they must be evil* Native American Version: They're not like you and me, which means *they can't be trusted* I dunno if I'm just misinterpreting something or what, but if they native americans said that 'they can't be *trusted*', wouldn't that mean that if the englishmen earned the trust they could be brethren or something? Then the englishmen sing 'they must be *evil*' which means they were never going to give them a chance like the indians would've if they just peacefully introduced themselves? I dunno, i need to just listen to the song and rekindle my childhood memories

I mean, in the historic case, MOST of the natives gave them a chance (some didn't but oh well). after all, part of the reason thanksgiving exists is because the natives helped them

I...wouldn't mind really. A song is a song, and this one happens to be fun to sing. As long as they know the rest of the story that happens literally two to five minutes after this song ends I wouldn't particularly care. Kinda like how people who play shooting/murder games don't actually go out and murder people. You just have to make sure to show the whole story/let them know what is what and the penalties for their actions. :3

Oh, I don't really mind the song or would beat my kids for singing it, I just mean it is pretty brutal when you think about it, so imagining little kids running around singing "SAVAGES!" just makes me think of Lord of the Flies, hahaha....

Ethnic conflict doesn't happen because we misunderstand people who are "different from us." It happens because of competition over limited resources. In this case, the Anglo settlers raided the Powhatan settlements for food and converted Native farmland and hunting grounds into tobacco plantations, and the Natives wanted to continue living on that land as they had done for generations. There were no "misunderstandings," only conflicts of interest. Societies go on to create an "us and them" mentality in order to justify behavior that would otherwise be obviously unjust, so we can all go on believing that we're good people despite doing terrible things. I guess it would be harder to make a Disney song about that.
