I wasn't sure if I commented on this before lol but I think also you could get one of those sets of wheels for tripods, or even just a regular flat four wheel dolly just for moving it around and either take it off when ready (if it's too tall) or something like that too 👏

@@LegitLeeVelez so awesome. Haha, possibly! I love that one. It might be a little while before I do a formal short film again, because my focus at the moment is the feature I'm working on. Sci-Fi thriller. But depending on how long the funding phase of that takes I may make a short film.

Definitely agree with the aspect of removing as many barriers as possible. Having regular lighting that can double as adjustable lights for filming is a huge plus - dimmers or RGB controls. I thought about the tripod situation before too, the constant setting up/adjusting height/angles. Not sure if you've seen that standplus from edelkrone? From the videos it seems like a game changer for indoor solo shooting but it's a little expensive to try on a whim (as someone trying not to accumulate too much surplus gear haha). Worth keeping an eye out if you ever get a chance to review one!
@ScottJeschke

Oh yeah, that thing looks amazing. Since this video, I actually typically for my solo videos use a light stand, and a ball head mount for the camera. This is sped up my workflow even more. It's not quite as lightweight as this tripod, but it makes adjusting height and camera angle so much faster.
@Matt-fo4gg

@@ScottJeschke Yeah that's a great idea to try for speeding up the height adjustments!

If we're after quantity over quality, simple is better. Because it's faster. And for most creators who haven't made it yet, quality isn't their bottleneck. Many mediocre shots will keep our viewers on their toes for a minute, compared to just a few good shots in a timespan of a minute. Not to mention, by getting many shots, the quality is bound to be improved over time. Practice makes perfect.
@ScottJeschke

So good. Totally agree. There's something about that going through the motions more frequently. That makes the muscle memory improve with every shot.

Cool vid. For me the adjustment of lighting setups is a way bigger pain, but maybe moving down to a more compact light would have a similar result as moving down to a lighter tripod.
@ScottJeschke
Жыл бұрын
Yeah. Lights are also a pain for sure. I try to keep to one or two for these kinds of scenes. But even one a c stand gets tiring. Tripod is just one mitigation

One quick observation on the way you edit your sound as well, I also sometimes noticed you dub yourself later, am I crazy to notice that? lol In the videos with talking head I notice you talk to the camera on multiple setups and I always wonder if u have a lav or just dub yourself. :)
@ScottJeschke
Жыл бұрын
Yep! Absolutely right. For the narrative style reviews, like the Viltrox one I just did, I dubbed myself. Pretty much just rolled off parts of the script, and matched the ones that synced the best with the existing voice over.

This is why I believe the days of the run and gun videographer will be rather short lived. So many people have turned their passion into a job and now they will burn out. This work has always been made for teams / crews mostly. Of course basic social content only needs a videographer. But to make a film or a decent video you need a crew. The future will be in small powerful crews for our industry. 🤍🎥🎬 stay creative 😀
@ScottJeschke

Yeah I think it's just two different use cases. I'd always crew up for a narrative short, feature or commercial. Even just a bigger camera necessitates a camera team. But the "content" side of things has never been easier for a one man band
