Nice video, I've just been looking at wort chillers as a next step for my homebrewing. It's cool to see you reason through the problems with your beer, I feel like I'm always doing that because there's just so much to improve

Because I'm recording my videos as well if I forget a mistake I've made I'll see it again and it reminds me to improve on that. Highly recommend a wort chiller though it's a game changer. Wastes a little bit of water but I'll figure out what to do with it later

That "film" is proteins. Nothing to worry about. You had the lid on that bottle so you didn't add any extra oxygen compared to the others. I would be avoiding adding oxygen to beer during secondary fermentation (carbonation). Oxygen will spoil beer.

@@jello1977 that's a good point, I hadn't thought of that. Do the proteins appear if I haven't converted all my starches? Or it's just something that can happen?

@@corywashere It will happen regardless. When I bring my brew up to boil the top is covered in the protein foam. It dissipates after a few minutes of rolling boil.

Fun video! Here’s some feedback: Lagers require double the yeast as Ales (if you you ferment at low temps) Should have thrown that whole packet in. Looks like you under-primed your bottles. I used to go by 7-8grams per litre from memory. That looked like less than 5g? Try mashing in an esky if you have one. It will maintain the temperature longer, or add boiling water as you mash. You’ll have to calculate your water accordingly. Or at least put a lid on the mash! Those recipe intricacies you’re referring to are called step mashing. Don’t bother with this unless you get an electric system down the line (IMO). You could try decoction mashing if you wanted a challenge. Great for a Czech Pilsner!

@@rici_22 I definitely felt like I under pitched, so noted I'll remember for next time. Makes sense that I've under-primed my bottles because not many were carbonated. I think they may have been less grams but I'll have to check when I get home. I really want to get better at mashing and sparging because I feel like I'm losing a lot of flavour or adding bad flavours. I'll have a crack at mashing in an esky and then I can sparge in it a bit easier too. I definitely will make a Czech pilsner eventually one of my favourite beers are budvar. Thank you for all the feedback. Some excellent advice, I definitely did way too much under pitching/priming in hind sight.

I reckon you should do a video where you just eat hops for 9mins. I’ll watch it! Whole thing, even the ads.
