"avoid any restaurant that has someone at the door" i stil recall when i went to san marino in the '90es and basically every single restaurant had one of those guys another little tip outside the box for food: festivals! basically every single city has at least a festival in spring-summer-autumn and 90% of those are about food! most of the time they are very affordable, good and have quite the options, from finger food to something more classic

Agreed, italy can be done on a budget. Me and my husband did 2 weeks in may. We did bari, matera, oliveto Citra, naples, and rome. We only used trains and buses. Southern italy was very affordable.

"Getting around by train" ... don't forget mentioning the work stoppages!! In four visits I've encountered travel-altering strikes on two visits. I'm sure there are ways to plan for them but I'm not yet sure how.

I also have staying in convents in cities like Venice, and at friends' farmhouses in Toscana, which is similar to agriturismi except instead of rent I may bring the groceries and/or leave some artwork I make for my hosts. Again, city cards in places like Florence provide express entrance to most museums and sites and if you are an art junkie and plan, I find I can never see everything but easily break even for the cost around the 6th gallery, and especially in smaller condensed cities, I then usually can easily see 25 or more museums, villas, or galleries, and once visited 43 in 3 days, AT A LEISURELY PACE. It's amazing what you can do with priority entrance without queuing, but with lots of breaks to take un caffe, pausa, merende, o cocktail 🍹 when needed. If I do a couple cultural days like that, then I feel I have earned a day of hiking around ruins, visiting churches, meeting friends for apperativi, riding a bike amongst farms, swimming in a hotspring, taking an evening passeggiata, or doing nothing at all but visiting per fare chiacchiere.

I have a question regarding staying in a convent for instance in Rome since I’ll travel solo and don’t mind curfews at all! I was told not to book it through Monasteries Stays app as they are taking a fee! However I can’t find the convents to contact them directly, do I have to get only through their apps in order to make reservations? Not sure! Does anyone knows? Thank you

Great advice. I’m kind of confused about booking a high speed train in advance. When booking a train, do you have to select a specific time or is it for a time frame? If we arrive in Rome at 140pm, do we book a train around that time? That’s not factoring in getting your luggage from baggage claim. Also if we’re traveling to Roman, Florence then Venice it would be beneficial to buy the 15 day pass? With that we still must book ahead of time for the times we plan to use the train? Thank you in advance!!

Hello Kristine yes when you book a train you have to book a specific time. Buying the 15 days pass could be beneficial but check out the specifics because sometimes the passes have restrictions

Hello. Are touring Italy in June 2023. We will be visiting Milan, Venice, Florence, Cinque Terre, Naples, Pompei, Rome and Tivoli. You said that train is the best transportation in Italy. So what company will I used? Is Trainline a good one? Please advise. Great videos and very informative 👍

Trainline is a ticket site to purchase train tickets. We used this a few times without issue. You can also go directly on Trenitalia website to buy tickets. There are also vending type machines at the stations to buy tickets. Using the train in Italy is pretty easy. The Travel Addicts Life has several videos using the trains that I found very helpful! Enjoy!

The train ends in Sorrento then you’ll need a taxi to Positano. We don’t know if there is a place for bags in Pompeii
