Newtown township has approved plans to demolish the dam and put in a smaller pond and wetland area with a road and parking lot running right down the middle of Grier Park. Their plan will cost over a million dollars, while the cost of dredging and preserving the pond by repairing the dam will cost less than $150,000. Over 250 township residents have signed a petition to preserve the existing pond, but township supervisors are ignoring the will of the people and moving forward with their plans. Their plans are doomed to failure and will end up ruining the natural beauty of the park at a huge waste of money. The plan to build a road through the park and a boardwalk around the pond and creek (just a run). is a failed idea as Grier Park is too small to attract anyone outside the neighborhood, when nearby Ridley Creek State Park, the Willows, and Oekehocking Preserve are so much bigger and better.
We need the public to complain and contact the township manager and board of supervisors.
