Basil seeds can be a bit of a pain to save unless you know how. They are surrounded by the plant material of the flower head. It's kind of like a loosely formed husk. Once the flower heads are dry though, the seeds will fall out fairly easily. It's separating the seeds from the chaff that can be a bit hard to figure out if you've never done it. A simple strainer makes that a breeze.
