I believe it would Lisa.... Romas are open pollinated... So unless the grower took the time to actively cross pollinate it, the seeds should breed true!

you can also remove the gel coating by slightly rubbing the seed on paper towel

My Roma did so well in the heat and just kept putting out new growth and more complete rounds of tomatoes I just have to save seeds from it. Thanks for the information!

It is best not to use paper towels - they stick. Plain printer paper, newspaper, other things he mentioned all work.

Hey, thanks for watching. Yes, the seeds need to go through the fermentation to remove the jelly coating. As for paper towel, I avoid! Ha ha they stick to it like glue and it's just a mess!

I collect mine in a jar with water put the lid on it and let it ferment for a week and strain it. Using a coffee filter to dry them

Hey Cathie, I think the heat will kill them. Do a test though...a seed viability test between damp paper towels works every time and let you know for sure! :-)

Oh yeah, San Marz's are awesome. They are what Romas originally came from. Finding legitimate ones can prove difficult though...

Living in zone 4 is so difficult! Sunday we got frost already and even snow flakes up here in the mountains. You can guess what happened to all my tomatoes ☹️ brother as always God bless you and your information is on point.

@@TheRipeTomatoFarms your telling me. My Brandywine vines were 7 feet tall and my cherry tomato vines were just as tall and both were FULL of green tomatoes. I'm glad I like fried green tomatoes but it would have been nice to have canned some juice and ripe red tomatoes. So next year it's going to be greenhouse starting and transplant all the way. Now all my kale, turnips, and broccoli, mustard and carrots, beets all cole crops it didn't hurt. Everything else squash, tomatoes, pumpkins, green beans, it definitely didn't do them any good. Crazy weather and times we live in caused today it's 70+ degrees. Like a hit and run on my garden. Maybe it will recover quickly. I hope it does I won't give up or quit. If it doesn't recover I've got mulch and good compost materials for next year.
