What a wonderful idea. Whoever came up with the idea for making a film of this is clearly deserves credit.

Every time I see a Green Party video it's so refreshing. A breeze of sanity in a political system stampeding towards the extreme-right. Three major corporate-owned parties and a purple and yellow collection of homicidal thugs who are even more in love with corporate greed. Whilst politics and society tumbles towards mindless selfishness and hate, the Green Party continues to work towards a decent UK and world.

Thank you for this succinctly put video. As a Green, I believe there is much that could be done to make the NHS more cost effective but to privatise it is bonkers. Privatisation is about profits for the few. Profits for the few is not about caring for the majority. Private firms for profit have no place in our NHS.

It's supposed to be increasing the scope of taxes. The rich and trans-national corporations use tax havens with their taxdodging. £70 Billion to £120 Billion lost yearly. 300,000 companies disappear before the tax year ends. Then the £50 Billion yearly subsidies given to the banks.

Yes, good AV presentation of the direction of travel. There's also room to include the essential steps of stretching and straining the workforce in order to divide and rule across increasingly wide divides and promote fragmentation of the service in the context of a poverty mentality. This way, under the guise of "local arrangements" and optimisation of care pathways the responsibility for privatisation is devolved from government to entrepreneurial and "visionary" health care professionals

The green party are a fundamental-change party, locally they have very little power to initiate their policies, but in overall government they will be in a position to fully delivery their policies. Until then it's up to the public.

Free high quality health care is a fundamental human right that should remain simple, effective and in the hands of the public and not the hands of private business firms who would innevitably prioritise profit over people.
@diesel4384

No its not. And its not 'free healthcare'. Its healthcare that is paid for by the tax payer, who are forced to give away their money for others to use, or face jail. What you are suggesting is that we steal money from the masses through coercion, to benefit the few. With private healthcare services, assuming there is no government market interference, you get a higher quality service for less money in every case.

So Diesel, I am assuming that if you break your leg you will be happy to pay over £2000 to recover not the best health care service constantly ask for a tiny bit of money to save your life if in an accident. So to secure your future for the better... vote Labour.

CleverCat I would be happy to because; a) taxes would be radically lower without socialist healthcare, and i could therefore keep and save more of my money for accidents such as this b) it is the personal responsibility of the individual to pay for and maintain their own health, i do not want to pay for fat/smoking fucktards who make themselves sick c) I would be happy to pay for health insurance, which would pay for the medical bills if i did not have the ability to save the money. In case you missed economics 101, healthcare will be higher quality and cheaper without government hospitals. Apparently you don't realise that tax paid hospitals make it impossible for private companies to compete on the free market, and as such they currently have extremely high costs and lower quality service.

+Diesel You're right, we should privatise everything; we've done all the essentials, fuels, water, electric, communications, prisons, most of the education and all so much better, cheaper and more efficient. Next thing that needs privatising is the security services, police, then the armed forces (good start with Blackwater), ditch any taxes or wage controls and let the good times role. We would all be wealthy and self sufficient then; just like the good old days.

nice summary, thanks! The only problem I have with criticising the internal costings part is that there needs to be a recognition of the costs within the system. For example, we shouldn't be sending everyone with a broken arm off for an MRI scan as (although it may improve outcome in a small number of cases) the cost of the scan and analysis is disproportional to the benefit it gives. We're not in 1948 any more, and the combination of ageing population and the advancements in medical tech/pharmaceuticals means that we can spend vast amounts of cash on any given health problem. Without a recognition of the realities of costs within the system and a monomaniacal focus on the rights to every healthcare option there runs the risk of an out of control expenditure as accountability only happens at the individual level. If you extend this as a thought experiment you could end up with an over-large amount of your country's GDP going on healthcare (this sort of happens in the US with the insurance led system rewards activity rather than cost effective results and the end of life costs being covered by the government- about 16% GDP last I looked compared to our

And Crack, Cocaine, Meth? Many argue that weed is a gateway drug and it has had bad effects on a lot of people. What makes me question the Green Party is that they have so many really good economoc/politic/European policies and this drug law is like a hangover from the 70s. They are strong enough without the drug law, so why not drop it?

***** De criminalising Marijuana is not such a bad thing. Even though it has it's bad points, just like Alcohol and tobacco, there are plenty of positive to it too. For example, marijuana is a great pain killer. The use of marijuana in the medical field would benefit a lot of people. Also, it has been scientifically proven to do less damage to the body than Alcohol and tobacco. So why not de-legalise it? Harder drugs like Cocaine, Meth, Heroin, etc. Should be illegal and remain that way. De-legalising Marijuana does not open the gate to de-legalising these dangerous drugs at all.

I can understand where you are coming from but in the name of 'progress' much more will occur. In any case, the intended drugs 'reform' will really put off people like me when the Green Party has such brilliant socio-economic policies that destroy the other parties. I have never taken drugs so I will not 'fight the power' and medical experts should have discretion to prescribe whatever drug will work, for example morphine is an opiate. Kids acquiring Marijuana, teens, and average adults could deal more damage that I'd rather not risk though.

"Many argue it's a gateway drug" Yes this is true but I would argue that alcohol is the gateway drug. The effect of alcohol is to lead you to do anything without caring at all. Most people start on alcohol, then get the idea of taking hard drugs. Not from weed. Weed makes people just want to chill, not take a load of cocaine. Cocaine and alcohol go hand in had, as cocaine allows people to drink more alcohol without loosing control. Alcohol is the gateway drug if there ever was one.

"Our nation's greatest invention" 1. The NHS was not the first socialist healthcare system on the planet, the Soviet Union beat us to it a long time before 1948. To claim "we" invented it is bullshit 2. Even if we did, I'm still calling bullshit. A 2nd rate healthcare system with a bloated budget is not better than most of these things invented by British people en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lists_of_British_inventions Also who the fuck would profit from a plan to privatize the NHS that seems to be taking at least 30 fucking years? Most prime ministers are dead within 30-35 years of leaving office. Why would they do something they never benefit from? This entire video is just conjecture.

Both are/were centrally planned, bureaucratic nightmares that have/had unjustified levels of public worship despite continuously declining quality.
