Great presentation, enjoved the model set-up and the explanation re: rising dove-tail. Hope to learn the geometry of the joint as I plan to build a Roubo bench in the future with "sliding dove-tails for the legs. Appreciate your show more than you know. Regards

+Richard Decker Hello Richard. Thanks for your comments. I'm glad my model and practice dovetail were helpful. The rising dovetail Roy Underhill uses is different from the sliding dovetail seen on the original Roubo bench. It's an interesting variation. This will be a fun project. Thanks for visiting.

I wasn't expecting a new video quite so quickly - a nice treat! I'm actually about yo make one of th these, I was looking at various videos myself recently. I'm liking the joint, I can see me using lots of stock trying to perfect it though so I may use something simpler for me, as long as it's practical and works. Happy New Year folks :)

Thats a great design Ken, I saw a similar one by Tom Fidgen and its on my "to do" list. Good to see the straightening of that piece of timber, quite a work out! I do envy your indoor workshop, my cold, damp, untidy and cramped shed is not so inviting at this time of year lol.

this is one of the reasons I want to learn woodworking with hand tools and not machines. because you get a pretty good workout and I sure could use it. plus the tablesaw really scares me. wish there were wookworking teachers around where i live but until then i enjoy watching you and Paul Sellers and that Canadian guy Tom Fidgen? the Unplugged woodworking dude. maybe if i get some nerve i make videos of what im learning and can be one of few women unplugged woodworkers on youtube.

Nice project! I love how you explain the joinery and final bench with models, that's an extra step that's much appreciated. I've been thinking about building a sawbench soon as well, but am leaning toward a split top bench rather than just the bird's beak. Good luck, looking forward to the rest of the build. Oh, I also appreciate that you clearly indicate when you'll be using power tools. I've noticed a few "hand tool" builds online where I've suspected that between scenes, the builder is using power tools without full disclosure.

I'll give you an "a" for the effort. for haven sake, it's a saw bench, not a work bench that accuracy is so important! if this bench surface would be twisted, you wouldn't know the difference because the board you're cutting on top also may have a twist in it! I'm sure you want to show your craftsmanship in the 5 segments, IT'S AN OVERKILL! it's nice to get compliments on your work, but your work has no merit because it's purpose, there is no need for "furniture accuracy" for a saw bench, it's Not a museum piece! sorry to tell you, use your skills for a valuable piece that you can display !

Yikes! I'm just having fun in my workshop. I could have made my saw bench with 2x4's and nails but rising dovetails and wedged tenons are a lot more fun. Not Yikes. It's a constructive comment about your work, I just felt that is OVERBUILT for such an item that accuracy (like you applied) is not necessary and the invested time could go to something more practical than a mere saw bench... I sure will visit your work shop, thanks for your response.

Since this, I watched you SHOP VIDEO, very neat, actually a bit too clean... I like what you did and all the storage that you have and your"new" work bench looks very effective and nice to work on. There is NO however here, I liked your parents and it looks like you're coming from a family of craftsmen/people which I admire, great kitchen table BTW, has a lot of history, I hope you'll inherit it one day, you're well deserving it. Your granfathers jurnal must be a treasure. It was interesting also that you didn't show even a single power tool, most shops do and it's a source of their pride, I find it hard to believe that you don't own any, I didn't see more videos... Your handplane collection is interesting, if I may suggest two planes that I very much enjoy: Veritas Low angle Jack plane and the Lie Nielsen 4.5 bench plane, probably one of the best ones ever made. In any way, you got my attention so, I will continue to watch, maybe comment on other videos, Cheers Mate.

Thank you very much for your kind comments. You will be happy to know that my shop is in shambles at the moment! Stuff everywhere as I work on my latest project. I do use power tools for some tasks. I have a table saw and a drill press in my basement. I keep them there because of the noise, dust and to save space. Thanks for your hand plane recommendations. I’ve been looking at that low angle jack for a while now. I hope you visit again, your comments are always welcome here. Best regards.
