This is truly what music is all about. WHY is the view count so low ?!!! This deserves millions at the least !

Many agree. His loyal fans promote him whenever we can. His type of music (folk/rock/blues) isn't that popular in the US & his record label did very little promotion. They parted ways this year. Now he, his mom (manager) and band are doing this on their own. He has written & produced a new LP, Hide Your Ghost, that will be released soon.

In case you haven't seen it yet, his LP, Hide Your Ghost was released the end of March. Should be able to download on Amazon, itunes, hear on streaming services, and FYE stores are carrying the CD exclusively. You can order all of his music from sawyerfredericks.com. Most radio stations are no longer locally owned, so you can't request music because their playlists come from corporate offices. You might hear Sawyer on Adult Alternative Album format stations-usually independent or publicly owned.

Its his own brand of folk/rock/BLUES. He admits he has a hard time writing happy songs. A lot of people find his music more cathartic than depressing.

I appreciate the feedback, and knowing he has addressed it. I loved him on the Voice, of course saw his raw talent, but for me this show was more about hanging with my kids. So seeing someone of his gift, in this case, I seriously looked forward to seeing 'the real Sawyer,' just knowing he had his own stuff. You are so right, his voice itself when he cranks is hugely cathartic. The first song of his own I heard I thought was sad, but this is the song I had to comment on, it's flat out accusatory...put me through the floor myself. I couldn't even wait for the good stuff I knew was coming first time. I'm still here now, listening while responding...minute left to go, getting harder. Holy shit, I've got half a mind to kill you? He seemed like such a basically happy person on the show. (Although once or twice I wondered if the sweet flower child thing was quite as heavy in real life. There was once or twice when I thought he batted his eyes just a teeny bit too hard.) But before all this just popped up in my face, I was going to just say that once when visiting my older daughter at art school, all the stuff on the walls was really so heavy and dark, and it concerned me. She said it was so much easier to be authentic expressing negativity, hard to not get smarmy if positive. She had a point, I thought. This is harder it's true, you have to be so seriously powerful to inspire approval and not disdain if it's a positive message, that's for sure...and I thought maybe this was about maturing into more self confidence and developing one's art instead of playing it so safe, especially at school where you regularly get critiqued, you know? And I thought it applied to Sawyer too, the maturity and development of one's art...but holy shit, this last line actually kind of scares me. I'd have left too...nothing like a good old fashioned guilt trip (in triple spades) to get the hell away from! I remain open minded enough not to make assumptions, but if this song is a reflection of who Sawyer Fredericks is as a person, he has already learned a lot of narcissistic behavior. That last line is flat out disturbing...

Sawyer has said that his songs aren't necessarily about him or his experiences. He says he puts himself in an imaginary scenario to convey emotion. This song is about the conflicting emotions one feels when betrayed by someone they love. I think he's also a keen observer of what's around him, and may have picked up on someone else's personal story. I've heard people say about this song and "Broken Home" that they've experienced these things and thank him for conveying how they felt. Sawyer comes from folk and blues traditions that are sorrowful. Plus I think teens often focus on dark things because they're becoming aware of the darkness of the world as they emerge from the protective cocoon of childhood. In fact, Sawyer's latest unfinished song is about someone who is asking a person they love to stop being protective: "don't need you to take my scars... I want you to tear me apart." (See youtube video titled "Sawyer Fredericks Untitled Sept. 6, 2017 Slowdown Omaha NE.") That said, I've seen him in person 3 times in the last year or so. While he's gained on-stage confidence and is less uncomfortable when cheered, he often uses self-deprecating humor on stage. And while he may sometimes come across as an angry lion in a song, at meet-and-greets he's surprisingly meek and mild-mannered. He takes his music seriously and is proud of doing things his own way, but the last word I'd use to describe him is narcissistic. Check out other songs on youtube like "Silent World" and "Hide Your Ghost." I think there's genuine concern for others there.
