The lyrics arent cheesey. They tell a good story. What makes these guys so good is thier ability to capture that thick Marshall sound out of thier amps and onto vynl. Damn, I was mesmerized when I heard this song for the first time back in '82. I was a kid of 12 then, just discovering a NWOBHM. A schoolmate's older brother had a quite impressive collection of records and we were listening this stuff after school at his place. Saxon, Judas Priest, BOC, Motorhead, Iron Maiden.... This was the stuff that marked the last years of my primary school. And I was lucky enough to see them in '83 live. Awesome experience for me back then. And I still remember some fragments of that concert. Especially this song, the moment the president is shot @3:11: the lights turn off, bang, bang, bang, three shots in total darkness, then a white light turns on, illuminating a rotating disco ball which throws a starry light around the whole place. Unforgettable.

The 60s was a very turbulent time. There was tragedy aplenty in Vietnam, all the killings and it began of course with Kennedy. Biff has always and will always write the best lyrics he's keen on history! I love Saxon they are so underrated. I don't "get" Iron Maiden they aren't melodic enough for me, but if you like them that's fine. Saxon were older guys even at the time they'd paid their dues and kicked around Yorkshire and the North for years before the first album. Originally they were called Son Of A Bitch. Saxon are my favorite hard/metal band and hugely inspirational to me. Iron Maiden are at times brilliant at times shite, but it depends on what album what song. For me Dickinson is a much better frontman than Paul Di'anno ever was and while Di'anno is a sweaty old drunk gay basher Bruce basher idiot Bruce is gonna stay what made that band, but as I say I don't "Get" some of their songs. This song is amazing. Very powerful words.
