For the proposal one, I can only imagine John went to grab the ring box, noticed the ring wasn't there and had a freaking panic attack before coming into the room where his confidante is fake proposing with the missing ring to his gf. Like I'd NEVER speak to that confidante again. What the F is wrong with them?'
@strawberryqueen0382
10 ай бұрын
What’s funny is that a similar situation happened to this with my brother in law but nobody stole the ring. So basically his side of the family has a like good luck ritual where they shake the box holding the ring before the proposal. And had one those boxes where it’s just sheer fabric folded under the ring. So before he proposes he shakes the box and we guess that’s when the ring got wedged into the fabric and the side or the box in a way that was viewable obviously on the outside. So he does the generic thing of having her look at something while he kneels silently until she notices. Only for my sister to notice the ring not in the box. Cue the sudden panic as he was sure he put it in and second guessing if he even placed it in the box at all. Eventually my sister had the idea of checking the box more closely and found it. It makes a fun story though. They even called back to it by pretending the rings were lost before wearing them actually at the wedding.

UPDATE ON BO: Bo posted his own version of events on Reddit. Bo’s younger sister was pressuring him to catch up with OP for ‘closure’. For context, the younger sister used to look up to OP and considered her as an ‘older sister’. EDIT: For those asking, please look up: ‘My (M30) younger sister (F26) wants me to give an old ex (F29) closure. I'm married, and don't see how this will do any good. That last story about the fire and the wife getting yelled at for calling to see if he was okay is wild to me. When 9/11 happened, one of our family friends was on a plane to go somewhere for work and his wife was freaking out, trying to get a hold of him the whole time he was on his flight. Once he touched down and saw she was trying to get a hold of him, he called back to see if she and their kids were alright. In the middle of him asking, "honey, what's wrong?" he looked up in time to see the news flash on the airport TV screen and he just went silent out of shock. Like thankfully he wasn't on one of those planes but at the time, we didn't know it was JUST those four planes. This guy had a CHANCE that he for sure could've been at the place that was on fire and she didn't know if he was there or not. Any normal spouse/family member/friend/etc would want to reach you and make sure you are okay. He needs to be mad at his job for writing him up over nothing, not his wife.

Honestly, massive props to everyone with curly/textured hair. I've always thought curly hair was gorgeous, but I've also learned from my friends with those types of hair just how much work it takes to take care of and style it. Nowadays, when I see someone's hair in braids, or dreads, wearing their hair natural, and/or has their edges laid in those little curls, I admire the style and the amount of work it took to get to that. The fact that laws like Crown Acts are still not across all 50 states and that POC (especially WOC) can be told that their hair in braids or worn naturally is "unprofessional", and yet I can be a regular wearer of the single ponytail or messy sock bun and no one comments on my hair smacks of hypocrisy.

The David/boyfriend story sounds a lot like biphobia from the sister. This guy is bisexual and had slept w several people, alright, but then she extrapolates that he's "slept with half the college" and "even professors" based on what, that he's friendly to his professors and has good grades? Then she calls it "experimenting" with guys, as if bisexuality is just experimenting and not its own valid sexuality. And is still convinced that this guy is "experimenting" after half a year of one, obviously caring and dedicated, relationship. The fact that she's still convinced that this guy is sleeping around with everyone seems like she really is just basing it off of shitty stereotypes about what bisexuality means.

Yeah, definitely some biphobia going on there. You don’t date someone for six months as an “experiment.” Also, she’s kind of slut-shamey…? Like, who cares if David slept around before he was in a relationship? How is that any of her business or at all relevant to his relationship with her brother?

He’d get mad at me for sleeping in on my days off even though I have a very physically demanding job and rarely sleep, got mad that I hadn’t heard back from any of the better jobs I applied to even though I was trying, wanted me to work out at all hours of the night, expected sex all the time, would tell me I wasn’t motivated enough and say I was being dramatic or making excuses when he’d make me cry, and would pick me apart, but say he was just trying to better me and cared so much . @nootdraws

the one thing I'll say in his defense (I think his behaviour wasn't okay, ofc, but I feel that people keep ignoring this detail) is that his boss had just yelled at him. His reaction was not okay, and was unreasonable, and the fact that he's maintaining that he was in any way justified is a HUUGE red flag, but that initial anger makes sense to me. Let's break this down. He made, inarguably, the correct choice by putting his phone on DND and putting it in his locker. He followed protocol. His wife then makes, inarguably, the correct choice when she repeatedly calls him, which results in his phone going off DND. He then gets chewed out by his boss for his phone ringing, something that is not his fault. He then speaks to his wife and is mad at her. This is because he feels unjustifiably persecuted by his boss, but cannot direct that anger at his boss due to the fact that this could impact his empoyment. The 'safe' outlet is to be angry at his wife, someone who does not hold monetary or social power over him. I can empathise with his initial anger, and can understand his immediate reaction. The initial anger, to me, is caused by the events surrounding the situation. I *cannot* empathise with his continued anger after finding out why his wife called him, and I cannot empathise with his continued justification, at which point the heightened tension has dissapated and he aught to be thinking reasonably.
@nochannel1q2321
Жыл бұрын
@@nootdraws It sounds a lot more that he's angry that she knows he won't have access to his phone. He made it very clear that she was aware this was the case. If there had been an incident calling (or googling then calling) a phone with someone who will answer is the logical thing to do. Knowing it wasn't possible to reach him in this way (I'm guessing it's something more like a fireworks factory or perhaps an anti-static protected facility either of which would make having electronics that aren't approved by the facility literally dangerous) I think he's more angry that her calling the way she already knows can't reach him and that ends up jeopardizing future raises than taking out anything from his boss on anyone. He set a boundary and she broke it. Why is that not okay because he's a guy?

It isn't automatically. if you don't feel safe around someone or don't know how to handle a relationship with someone, seeking distance for a bit is healthy. telling someone they aren't allowed to do that, so as to keep them around you, can be emotional abuse also. codependence is a bitch. in the end, i guess the best way to describe the difference between abusive neglect and just taking a break is mostly, what are you communicating? if you are demonstrating that the person depends on you, setting unreasonable conditions for them, that they should fulfill in order for you to return, especially ultimatums. That's abusive. If there's demands made that go beyond apology and betterment, and she won't return otherwise. That's manipulative. If she's explicitly waiting for him to come back crawling, begging, getting a thrill out of that rush of power. That's messed up. Not getting in contact with him because she needs to cool down? Because seeing him kinda makes her angry right now? Because she needs to process or figure out how she feels about their relationship? That can grow into something nasty, but in and of itself, it's just a safety tool. And a fair one to use. You don't owe your partner emotional intimacy. You do owe them their right to have emotions of their own too. And some honesty when you finally talk about it. And I will say. That you describe emotional abuse as the "immature thing to do" shows that you know little of abuse. Cause it's not the immature option. It really isn't even an "option". When it breaks out, and when people leverage it, it's more of a need. A corrupt, broken need, but still a thing that will worm itself into the relationship and tear it apart, making the people incapable of connecting, of talking to eachother on an even plane. "She had a chance to educate him but she chose to do the immature thing and emotionally abuse him" makes it sound like abuse is just a casual decision people sometimes take when they don't feel like having a real relationship.

The man mad at his wife for calling and being worried for him really irritated me. My dad works at an oil refinery. It's an incredibly dangerous job, he's gotten injured and they recently had a bad explosion that injured multiple of his coworkers and almost killed one. They have fires and dangerous situations multiple times a year, but he ALWAYS finds time to at least shoot a quick text to my mom to let her know he's okay. We also have two main office numbers to call in the case of an emergency. If he knew there was a fire, he should have briefly excused himself to at least text her. She was understandably scared. There's no excuse for his actions OR for the actions of his supervisors.

He didn't know there was a fire, at all. The fire happened at Site B, which could be miles away or in a different city even. All he saw was that he has 20 missed calls from his wife, to which his frustration is understandable... "You thought I was dying, yet all you did was call my phone 20 times? You didn't call the office? You didn't come down here? You just sat in the living room at home and watched the news and called over and over again?" What if he was in trouble? He's not going to answer his phone if he's on his way to the freaking hospital, or worse. His wife's attempts at calming her nerves was immature, untrustworthy, and frankly inappropriate. I would have lost a lot of respect for my spouse if she treated me that way.

@@terra_the_nightingale135 Calling someone 20 times is not reasonable. There's that famous quote, "the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results". What is "reasonable" is remembering how phones work and calling a few times spaced throughout a short period, sending a text or two, or leaving a voicemail. Every single time she calls she makes a notification that she called, it has no impact on wether or not he picks up, especially since she knows he doesn't have his phone and knows he keeps it on silent mode. What's "reasonable" is being very worried, calling, looking for another way to get a hold of him, and trying to remember that he doesn't keep his phone on him. What's NOT reasonable is calling over and over and over and over and over and over like somehow he is going to pick up on the 12th call if he doesn't answer the 11th, or the 20th call if he doesn't answer the 19th. In reality, if he doesn't answer the 5th call, he's not answering the 50th.

Meh dude didn't give her an alternate number. Just said "She can look up the company name on Google and call the listed number. Eventually that person will get the message to me." If he didn't want his phone blown up, he should have given her a local "In case of emergency " office number. It may be insanity to do the same thing repeatedly and expect different results, but the only option he gave her was to Google a corporate number and call for information that might take hours to arrive (or if he was in trouble days). Worrying with no relief drives you to more unreasonable actions as time goes on. Is he more likely to answer the 5th call than the 4th? No. But not being able to get news on his condition makes that less likely to matter in her decision making. What she did WAS unreasonable, but only because reason goes out the window when you fear a loved one might be dead. Moreover that office number was absolutely flooded with calls from the families of people who did regularly work at the second site. She WASN'T going to get through to the office for hours. Calling her husband's phone repeatedly was probably MORE likely to get a response than a corporate office dealing with media, authorities, and family during a major casualty event ever would be. Tl;dr way to tell us you are a socially inept, inconsiderate a**hole, without telling us you are a socially inept, inconsiderate a**hole.

He has no right to tell her what to wear. And then had the audacity to say she was overreacting?! And he was an AH before he’d even told the story about the bonnet when he’s mentioning the amount of product she needs to spend to maintain her hair. @dijonmustard1970

No, it's because having "20 missed calls" demonstrates an unfavorable and immature decision making process in his wife. If she's called 15 times, does she really think he's going to pick up on the 16th? Does she think that every time she calls it's somehow increasing the chances of him answering? No texts? No voicemail? No context? She knows how phones work, she will know if he gets one or two missed calls he'll see it. What if he WAS in danger? If the building was going up in flames, he's definitely not stopping by his locker to get his phone before evacuating. If he WAS in danger, his wife knowing about it is a VERY low priority, saving his own life and getting to safety is the priority. She didn't do jack shit besides calling him, she didn't call the office, she didn't throw on her shoes and drive down to his work to find him, she didn't do ANYTHING yet we're expected to believe she was in panic mode? If my life was in danger and I got horrific burns from a building being on fire and had to be rushed to the hospital, I would be pissed if I found out my wife knew but all she did was call my phone 20 times. She failed him, she isn't responsible, she's immature and lives in her own reality and he has every right to be pissed about it.

In fact, there was one time that our child was in a bad situation, and she took the initiative and got him to safety all while keeping me aware of it and not wasting her time making frivolous phone calls out of panic. Actions speak louder than words. Case in point, if the OP's husband actually was dying in a fire, she did nothing. She didn't figure anything out, she didn't make any attempts to help him, all she did was call repeatedly to ease her own worry. His phone would be ringing off the hook as he is being rushed to the hospital. It's moments like these that you realize who is trustworthy and you find out that sometimes who you are the closest to will fail you when you need it the most. @@dijonmustard1970it isn’t “unfavorable and immature decision making process” to panic. There is no decision process to be had. In a situation where the love of your life is in mortal danger and you are no where near them you are not going to be thinking rationally unless you’ve been trained to do so for one reason or another. Maybe 20 times is a lot to YOU but calling only twenty times means that at some point she DID calm down enough to stop. When someone has a panic attack they enter an uncontrollable loop of behavior that is often destructive. This is why people who experience them frequently have to be counseled on what to do to help break that cycle BEFORE they have another one, why the coping mechanism itself has to be simple and easy to remember, and why oftentimes it still takes another person being there during the panic attack to help calm them down. His wife had no preparation for this and in a situation where you would agree panic was justified im surprised she managed to break that loop on her own at all. You don’t know what else she did. She might have called other family members, she might have been stuck crying until he came back, she might have ran to the neighbors, she might have been at work herself and only stopped calling because she overextended her break time. If she found out on the news that means there were already professionals on the scene so it’d be no use calling 911, but we don’t even know if she didn’t do that either. The reason this dude is an asshole is because he had no empathy for the peril his wife was under thinking he was in danger.
