His name is Stanford White and his life held a dark secret that sent him to an early grave. A tale of lust, leading to the ‘Trial of the Century’ and involving, at the time, one of America’s most successful artists’ models, Evelyn Nesbit, whose story would be retold in the 1955 film The Girl in the Red Velvet Swing starring Joan Collins, as well as the 1981 film Ragtime starring Downton Abbey’s Elizabeth McGovern.
