Update: Several occupied apartments were struck by bullets, including one with a 3-week-old baby inside. At this time there are no reported injuries as a result of the 40+ shots fired.
LYNNWOOD, Wash. - Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit (MCU) detectives and Collision Investigation Unit (CIU) detectives are investigating a fatal crash following an early morning shooting and pursuit. At 12:45 a.m., deputies responded to reports of 15-20 shots fired at an apartment complex in the 14800 block of Admiralty Way. Deputies responded to the area and located a vehicle matching the suspect vehicle description fleeing from the area at a high rate of speed. Deputies attempted to make a traffic stop on the vehicle, but the suspect accelerated and a pursuit was initiated near the 13900 block of Ash Way. The pursuit continued to 164th Street and onto I-5 southbound. The suspect vehicle exited the freeway at NE 145th Street. The suspect vehicle was traveling approximately 90 MPH in the oncoming lane of traffic and deputies terminated the pursuit. Shortly after, the suspect vehicle crashed near 36th Ave NE and NE 145th Street.
One of the occupants in the suspect vehicle, an adult male, was located deceased at the scene of the crash. A second suspect fled from the scene on foot. A K-9 track to locate that suspect was unsuccessful.
The suspect vehicle is confirmed stolen.
MCU detectives found evidence of at least 40 shots fired and several bullets striking the apartment complex. It is unknown what led up to the shooting, but detectives believe a second vehicle was involved in the shooting. The roadway between 148th Street SW between Admiralty Way and 35th Street remains closed while detectives investigate.
CIU detectives remain on scene at the crash near NE 145th Street. The roadway is currently closed and expected to remain closed for several more hours while detectives investigate.
This is an active investigation.
Positive identification of the decedent, as well as cause and manner of death will be determined by the Snohomish County Medical Examiner's Office
