1. Side determination
2. Proximal Pole - articulates with radius, and lunate via scapholunate interosseous ligament (SLIL)
3. Distal Pole - articulates with trapezoid and trapezium via the STT (scapho-trapezio-trapezoid joint), and capitate
4. Tubercle - flexor retinaculum, flexor carpi radialis tendon sheath, and abductor pollices brevis
5. Waist - dorsal ridges/crests, nutrient foramina
6. Blood supply - branches of radial artery enter from tubercle and dorsal ridges on the waist, proximal pole receives blood supply via a retrograde flow
7. Preiser's disease - AVN of proximal pole
