I like the part when Pran was supposed to be killed by the Khmer Rouge, but the young soldier who he gave the Mercedes emblem to, remembered Pran and spared his life by stating, "Mercedes number one".

Yup, powerful stuff. Joffee talked about the little plastic bags in the commentary track on the DVD: they were a quick, cheap & easy way to execute people. Such a horrific piece of history.

That meant that that soldier was either a traitor spy secretly working for the Khmer Rouge Communist enemy or he switched sides later.

I've always liked this scene of that badass Cambodian army machine gunner defending his country and Cambodian people's freedom to the death.

How are you going to include the Mercedes #1 scene and not include the follow up to it which is probably the most famous scene in the film when the soldier saves his life and says it again?

Yup. When you use a good grade of film, it transfers well to the medium. Have you listened to Joffe's commentary track? It's a great one.

Years ago i met a Cambodian lady in Madrid and i asked her whether it was true that people that wore glasses were shot and she answered yes,It was.I could not help gasp in amazement.Everyone who had a trade that envolved intellectual activity were put out of commission. It was chilling.

The commies executed anyone that they deemed a threat to the state, in order to survive you had to appear dumb and less intelligent than the people guarding you, if you put them in situations where they could be embarrassed you were a threat.

Honestly, I think it's the absolute scariest war film I've ever seen. The whole scene where they're captured scared me shitless the 1st time I saw it. Schanberg said that Joffe captured it well.

Yeah I’m sure they love you too buddy and we will see how much you love the Khmer Rouge after you’re starved to death, shot, or tortured. There is nothing to “love” about them. Please stop expressing admiration for them. They perpetrated human rights violations on a number of levels.
