Book-readers have gone on at length about the superiority of Stannis and Dorne's respective storylines in thr novels, and I was disappointed to learn that Baby Aegon (Young Griff), Rhaegar's son with Elia, is well and truly dead in the TV show. I concur that it'll be more satisfying to read the books after I've finished the show👍

I started reading the books when season 4 came out, after I finished them I was impressed with how well the first 4 seasons adapted the first 3 books for the most part, some aspects of book 2 I liked more than season 2 (Dany's story, Theon's and Bran's). But when it came to season 5 the fact that I'd read them only served to make me hate that season even more because of all the things they left out and all the things they did a piss poor job of adapting like Dorne (absolute shit in the show), Arya's storyline, Tyrion's, as well as stuff they changed for the worse. Probably best you wait until the show is over, I tell you now though recent seasons haven't been adaptations so much as fan fiction that's more equivalent to a different story entirely.

Stefan Filipovits some of the scenes would have been too difficult and too expensive to put on screen. However, they could have added the most important bits. For all the talk about the three heads of the dragon and their three riders and the PTWP, no one (except Melisandre, and she was talking about Azor Ahai) ever mentions them. Yet the show acts like those prophecies are valid and still stand, and expect everyone to know about them. Like I get book readers knowing, but your average show watcher? Oh those 1000s of magical unknown beasts and ancient monsters that not even gandalf knows about.... They all die too". It's hard to get sucked into a fantasy realm where the fantasy dies out. GOT on the other hand. Magic is coming back whether you like it or not. Not sure what the end result will be of the world after the white walkers are done with it though. Great topic. I noticed that the showed tampered down the magical elements too, and I don’t think it’s all budget-related. I think Dave and Dan also have more limited screen time as is the case with most books that are made into movies, and had to make choices about what is critical to tell this story. For this reason, I like the fact that the books go as far as our imagination can carry us, but the show is focused less on reality. Jon/Aegon is probably more relatable and likable without his warging powers. Jon still has a special connection with Ghost and even Drogon, but the TV show doesn’t go as far as to set him apart as a leader simply because of magic. Jon’s moral character seems to be the real quality that sets him apart as a leader, and that quality seems to drive the storyline

I think all the abandoned story lines in the show aggravated me more than anything. I understand that creating a TV show with so much source material is probably extremely difficult. That being said, they could have created an outline ahead of time with key points that they wanted/needed to cover.. They could have broken this entire series down into much smaller stories, and then expanded on them in later shows (prequels, sequels, etc etc). Also, GoT should have had at minimum 3 more seasons. I feel like they were just tired of the project and wanted out. They didn't earn a lot of moments in that finale. Such a good show in the beginning. On a side note, GRRM needs to focus on the remaining books. There's no reason TWoW shouldn't already be completed. The show suffered when the showrunners did their own thing.

I thought one had to be a brother of the Night's Watch or with one AND recite the vows in order to be able to pass the Black Gate. It's due to the magic in the wall where it won't let one pass unless they are a brother as well as knowing the vows. Otherwise anyone could pass. The Red Woman’s illusion with Mance Rayder is a huge one. Spoiler alert: Mance Rayder (it’s been a while, if I’m misspelling names here) isn’t killed by Stannis. Melisandre uses illusion magic to make Rattleshirt appear as Mance, so Stannis kills Rattleshirt, not Mance. Hmm. I've been binging your videos and it seems like GoT is a watered down version of ASOIAF... Which is pretty lame seeing as how they could've slowed the pace of the show down, included a lot more content from the novels and given GRRM more time to finish the series. Instead we got the rush job that is season 7

11:39- We might get the ice spiders given how much they've been hinting at them or they might be exaggerated descriptions of the vehicles that the Night Walkers ride on. Either is plausible.

I’m a show watcher who’s pretty familiar with the lore but hasn’t read the books yet. As someone who’s only seen the show I’m curious: is there any living thing on planetos that can’t be resurrected & controlled by the WW/Others? Edit: I should clarify, I haven’t read the books themselves but I did listen to the world of ice and fire audiobook so I’m not a total stranger to the lore.

Stefan Filipovits no one knows. In the books, the Others are way more mysterious and elusive than they are on the show. Hell, they maybe make 3 appearances total in the books, and that's it, and they are vastly different to the weird wrinkly blue guys on the show. The Night King is not a thing in the books (unless you count the 13th Lord commander) and we've literally seen nothing of the Other's habits, abilities and culture. Other than hints about what they can supposedly do, and a clear confirmation of a language and code of honor we got in the Prologue of AGOT, that's about it. So its anyone's guess who can and can't be reanimated. But, one thing is certain; book others>white walkers. George made these ice fuckers the scariest thing in the world precisely because he literally didn't tell us anything about them. The show however, has turned them into caricatures, the orc army out to kill for their Sauron. They kind of lost the creepy factor IMO after the battle of Hardhome.

At some point in a feat for crows, Sam reads a myth from some old book that the white walkers rode aurochs that they had brought back, he compares it to the horses they now ride. Its also clarified that the Wights cannot be killed with dragon glass because they are only dead bodies walking, not the supernatural creature that the white walkers are. Given this, I would assume that they can reanimate any animal, because it's just a corpse that they give enough life to to follow and take commands.

I wish they had not left out Patchface bc I think his character adds a lot of depth to the story, with his prophecies etc. He's essentially a prophet of drowned god, a kid who died and was brought back to life. However I am ok with HBO leaving out most of the weirwood scenes. That half-corpse half-tree stuff is super gruesome and is ok to read in books but imo it'd be out-of-place in the TV show. tbh I think it feels out-of-place in the books too. The warg stuff is cool though and I really wish that more wargs and different types of animals would've been in the show. That doesn't even require expensive special effects!

What about Mermaids and Mermen for that matter? you really can't have one without the other the Mermen would be the Warriors of the Oceans, perhaps they ride the giant sea turtle and the Mermaids lure unsuspecting land mammals, such as human men, to their Doom, but I guess that's in Ulysses.
