I have a 28 year old Schwinn Traveler. It's a basic road bike, nothing fancy. I love it. I'm like you with the knowledge in the race dept. I say if it feels good, do it.

yeah, I ride a '81 310 Miyata. Almost 25 pounds, but it's a solid tank and a good trainer. when you can average 21 MPH on that and then pick up a modern 15 pound bike, it is an unbelievable feeling!

while not an extreme downhill that definitely it one long downhill ride. There's no hills that size around where I live. Such a shame, looks like a ton of fun.

I ride my dad's old road bike from 1986 that I got fixed up with some new wheels and tires. I pass most people on fancy road bikes. In this case it's 98% the person, not the machine, especially road bikes vs. other road bikes. The efficiency gain in 1000 dollars is nothing like the efficiency gain between a road bike and a non road bike.

For those who care .. aerodynamic drag increases with the speed squared, i.e. double your speed you get 4 times as much drag. rough calc says @ 100km/h you might have about 30kg of force holding you back, at 50km/h might only by 8 or something. interesting.

Take better lines through those turns and you'll go faster! Space your group right so that you can all just follow each other in one coherent line through the turns using the outside-inside-outside technique. I see it a little bit but it's just so much more comfortable when you get it down.

Is colorado good for biking? because its seems like every bike video i look at, whether it's road biking or mountain biking, it seems to be in Colorado about 80% of the time. I live in colorado and im just getting into biking and i was wondering if colorado is good for biking.

i'd say they were using 52/11 & yea its nothing special, firstly try the french alps then decide how fast you wanna go, 45mph choose 53/11 or +60mph choose 54/11. hell if you wanna dance with the devil try col-du-galibier with 56/11 but i wanna live to see my next birthday.
