@HattieLovesCattie he wasn't booed, but i cannot help it if there have been some fools that did so. he was and still is popular in holland and he is considered one of the best-i say the best- skater ever. i've had the opportunity to see him in Alkmaar in 1977 where he won the worldchampionship sprint, only 18 years old. I know indeed that in heerenveen in 1980 he was tired after his goldrush

@oronopolo I've been to Holland twice but I know I read in the papers and mags on how he got booed when he didn't win a race or the World Championship a month after his 5 golds in Lake Placid.Eric and everyone else was tired.I got to meet Eric at a bike race in Calif.six months later. He was so sweet.Eric is really showing his age now.Read that he has pain in his back and knees all the time now. What he did will not be repeated.
