Two years after your comment Cici still has the best and most comprehensive demo on this bass. There's a few people playing it but they're paying with a backing track and they don't talk about the bass at all. One guy has the bass so buried in the track I don't even think he's playing the bass at all hahaha

I stumpled upon the J-4 version of this bass on Tuesday and I had to buy it .... went to our bass store, played many basses for more than 2 hours and just before I wanted to leave the shop with an FGN bass I saw that beauty. Picked it up, instantly fell in love with it, plugged it in and that´s it. Love at first tone played.

I know the feeling. Personally ive never been a Gibson fan and I was at a store that had the non reversed thunderbird in faded pelham blue. A color that I just don't like on a brand that I never gave a chance. I picked it up just to try it because I have heard performers make them sound sweet but it never felt as iconic as a p or j bass for example. And its weight balance was just perfect, the neck felt thick Wich I normally hate but it fit my hand perfectly like giving some1 a pleasant handshake, it held like I had used it for years. I plugged it in I started to noodle and it took complete hold of me. I now own a ugly blue gaudy bass even by gibson standards Imho, and I love it. Finding a instrument made for you changes how you play and nothing can replace it. Thats the one that gives you that feeling that makes you play that way end of story. Glad you found one 😁👍

That bass is the perfect sandwich of figured ash, and Zambrano. These wood choices, along with active EQ give a plethora of tones. Once again, your compositions are so ethereal. They are a musical depiction of Alice's plummeting down the rabbit hole. I'm digging the use of time, and looping effects. A haunting melody, expressive, inventive, surreal, yet with purpose. A distinct pleasure experiencing you art, on the bass that won your favor. Cheers!

I've had that experience with motorcycles, guitars, and basses where they just sort of tell me that they need to come home with me. I gave my son a Harley and he bought me a Fender Telecaster, unexpectedly. What a nice surprise! I'll keep that bass in mind as I look for my 2nd bass. The song at the end sounds like it could be in a movie. Great video!

Coco, Your comments are almost exactly what I might say. My go to has always been a Rickenbacker v-63 I bought in 2001. I always have loved the tones Chris Squire would get, but I have never been totally satisfied. I’ve had 4 ricks prior to that one. And a few other various basses. I went to guitar center yesterday for a new set of tuners and bridge for a jazz bass and while the employee went looking for the match I went to the bass room as we do and messed around. I saw that bass and to start I don’t remember ever seeing a bass guitar so beautiful. Then I played it and such great tones, it felt so comfortable, totally unreal. I own an active sound gear and the neck being so thin and 24 frets makes it kind of fun to pick every once in a while. But you have to take off the back plate every time to change the battery or just check it. That adds up to eventual stripped screw heads, wider screw holes, and wasted time. This battery is so easy it changes everything in my mind about using an active bass. Like you, I couldn’t leave the store without it. If I did it would have been on my mind all day, and I would have gone back anyway. Absolutely love this thing. Great recording, Keep it up girl!😊

Hiya. Thanks for sharing. I love your enthusiasm and wonderful bass playing., I know exactly what you are feeling. I play guitar, saxophone and some bass. Around 1982 I got a Fender Japanese 1962 re-issue Squire from the first issue that Fender put a block on after only 400 were made. I have played many guitars and have quite a collection...... but this one I bonded with. It is now road-worn and feels like an old pair of slippers. It is a magical and inspiring instrument that makes you feel like you are singing through it.. I have an early 80s Japanese Jazz bass as well that is a great bass but..............I recently got a Sire Marcus Miller V7 vintage in swamp ash with a maple 7.1/4 radius. I am feeling with this bass what you are feeling with the Schecter. It is inspiring, easy to play sounds awesome and feels like it has grown out of my side. Now you go and have a good cry.......😂

I've just recently tried the P-4 Exotic in Switzerland in a shop. There was only ONE shop that had this bass in stock. The neck is as expected a fat/wide precision neck and the finish of the neck is fantastic! Really one of the finest necks I've touched :). But now comes the problem with this particular bass: Multiple dead spots. The C# on the G-string, then on the D-string there were even 3 consecutive dead spots starting at G#. I was so disappointed but now I know the reason why no one bought this particular bass in that shop. Long story short: ALWAYS try the bass in a shop and carefully check the bass for flaws. It's strange to play through each note in a shop to find dead spots but that's what you should do :D. Same model doesn't mean same quality and I'm sure there are good P-4 exotic basses out there.. go get them :-)

I first saw that bass a few months ago, but I've only come across it online, so I haven't been able to play it yet. It sounds pretty good, though. I love swamp ash as a tone wood. The only downside is that it tends to be rather dense, and consequently heavy. I own a G&L JB with a solid swamp ash body that clocks in at 11 lbs, 13 oz (~5.358 kg)!

I'm very torn between the Yamaha BB434, Sire P5 and now this. The aesthetics and sound of the Schecter seem perfect albeit a pretty big jump in price 😬 It's mad that there aren't more reviews! Love the tunes, lots of Justin Chancellor vibes. I had to pop 10,000 days on after watching 🙌

Wow thank you so much, I really appreciate that :) It’s funny you say that, I felt the same way up until last year as well, and now I’ve fallen in love with P-basses :) Also, 10,000 Days is one of my all time favourite albums! If it helps, I also have a video on the Sire P5 on my channel. Sadly I don’t have any experience with the Yamaha BB434, but as far as the Schecter or Sire goes - They’re both absolutely awesome basses, they both feel very easy and comfortable to play (at least in my experience), and they both sound gorgeous. The Sire has a very warm tone which is gorgeous, but not necessarily as versatile as the Schecter, however the Sire definitely seems to handle pretty much every genre I’ve thrown at it with ease, it’s just that it’s not as versatile of a tone as the Schecter. The Schecter has a wider margin for treblier and bassier tones, and is an extremely clear sounding bass, possibly the most clear bass I’ve ever heard with not a single frequency missing. The Shecter is weightier than the Sire, but basically all in all, I would recommend either of them as they’re both absolutely fantastic basses in their own rights and can both handle whatever you throw at them (in my experience). So it may be a case of going and trying them if you’re able to and seeing which one you prefer :)

@@CiciVonStrangelove After a lot of indecision I managed to find one of these and I'm super happy. Had to shim the neck to get the action where I wanted it but apart from that it's incredible. The neck is beautiful, so smooth and fast. I'm not totally in to the glossy finish on the body, a satin closer the finish on the neck would've been better I think but it looks great regardless. Feel bad for dismissing Schecters all this time! One thing that I found particularly cool is that it comes with the EMG BTS (I think) preamp, theres a couple of dip switches which affect how the treble knob works. If you set them both to "on" it gives you a really cool high mid/treble boost which gives some really aggressive tone straight out of the bass. I don't really tend to use the eq on my bass much but if you really want to dial in a Chancelor-esq tone on the fly it makes it super easy :D

Yeah, I've had a similar experience with an instrument. In my case, the 2012/2013 Fender Telecaster bass from the Chinese-made Modern Player Series. Between the feel of it and the thundering humbuckers it just fits me totally. I think I get what you mean in that the neck profile isn't your usual thing and yet somehow works for you anyway. My bass's neck is more lean that whan I'd anticipated I'd want, and yet on the Tele I don't want it any other way. My theory is that part of what makes it perfect for the player, is that it's just a bit different from what "should" be their perfect instrument - the imperfection is part of the charm.

Awesome ! Hendrix would call this an "Experience". Very FLOYD-ISH. Quite an artistic piece, A la :"moonlight Sonata". You're beautiful in every way. Never let that Bass out of your sight. Cheers !!!

It would sound badazz with an envelope filter and a touch of gain! Good stuff! 👍🤘

I believe that type of pickguard is called anodized metal. Black anodized in this case. Early second gen Fender P basses (1957 through mid-to-late 1959) had gold anodized guards. EDIT: And what a nice fiddle! Sounds good, looks well made... and the fact you've bonded so strongly with it makes me suspect you'll use it for everything from now on:) I use my 1975 Stratocaster for everything. Had it since I was 18. I'm now 50. I still remember the day I bought it as if it was yesterday. It's my lifetime love affair, that guitar.

Interesting, didn’t know that about the second gen P-basses :) In the case of this bass the pickguard is actually plastic, but with a brushed metal ‘look’ to it rather than actually being metal, but it’s still really cool!

@@CiciVonStrangelove Yeah, they stopped it very shortly after they switched to rosewood fretboards.

I've got this bass. It weights 9.25lbs, same with Fender American Professional Jazz bass.

I’m going to trade in my bass for an upgrade, hopefully I’ll have enough to get this one. I love the tone

I love Rainmarch, would love to create something like that on my own, don't have your skill yet. I had a similar experience with a bass, a Charvel San Dimas IV PJ. The neck is just sublime. It is so playable. The right bass makes a difference. I have always lloved the looks of the P4 Exotic but never had the chance to play one. Yours is a beauty.
