Your videos are like mini fashion education courses. I honestly don't mind waiting a bit. It's not like I'm gonna go out and start shopping haute couture and I'm waiting on your reviews. I just want to be guided through the collections, with a knowledgable person. The jeweled martyrs are metal AF. If the Schaiaparelli collection was't referencing them, someone doing haute couture should.Super pumped that you mentioned the Constructivists. I know that Dries Van Noten Fall 2011 very specifically referenced the Constructivist fashion designs that were proposed to be manufactured for the masses but ended up never being produced.
@TheAnimaAnimal

The references to history that he and now you mention are incredibly thoughtful, and enjoyable to read. Makes me think that embroidery will increasingly become more trendy/popular. Embroidery represent a more homey, old timey feel, grandmotherly but coupled with those intricate and glorious designs you mention because they are metal AF. They also represent something more organic, authentic and time consuming to make which is incredibly on trend rn with sustainability and the movement towards more organic shapes in circles and whirls as we move away from too ridged and sharp cold shapes. I really hope this catches on because embroidery can fit not only surrealism but also other styles such as constructivist that you mentioned. It is an underutilized element that I think can go beyond embroidered butterflies covered in pink glitter that every 90s/00s kid had on their jeans and replace those copious pieces of shiny plastic and glitter that tends to be put on clothing today and has been for a long time.

To me it looks as if Dior and Chanel’s cloths are now driven by fear of shocking and generating bad press in a world where victimisation is more à la mode than mode itself. As a result the looks are safe, colours are muted, flesh is hidden, and most creations, even the most exquisitely executed ones, look like unsexy expensive boring stuff for mémés. Thanks for the video.

I absolutely loved the Schiaparelli show, from the different allusions to both greek and roman mythologies to more biblical and modern literature references. Although the look with the golden head on chain may look simpler than the other looks, its references were for me by far the most intriguing. I believe aside from the inspiration from Elsa's armoire/cupboards dress, there is perhaps a biblical inspiration there as well. Namely the story of john the baptist. Now there are few stories told when it comes to john the baptist's life and his famous beheading, the most well known and used in literature both modern and old is the tale of a king, Herod Antipas, and his wife. The story goes that John the Baptist condemned their marriage as illegal as she had previously been married to his own brother, Philip. Their daughter, Salome, influenced by her mother, proceeds to perform a dance for King Herod, her stepfather, and enamoured and moved by her grace and beauty, the king proceeds to ask Salome whatever she desires which he would grant. Thus Salome request John the Baptist's head on a silver platter which King Herod delivers as promised, that is the famed tale. Notably, and one my favourites, use of this Biblical reference is in 21st century poetry, by non other than the previous British Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy herself. In her collection called the world' wife, a collection of poems which critiques androcentrism by telling famous events and men of history from the women's perspective, there is a poem called "Salome". In said poem Salome wakes up, having slept with John the Baptist the night before, finding his decapitated head on the adjacent pillow. Perhaps, the black gown's simplicity with its straps hanging off the shoulder and the train held in the model's hand depicts this newly out of bed evening gown. Additionally the use of metals comes into play as well, the original head having been served on a silver plater, while Daniel Roseberry's head is encased in gold. The use of the gold both fit the collection's color scheme as a whole, but also works in the context of the allusion. The head is attached to a thick chain, which creates this movement of swinging, making the look and its quite horrifying reference almost whimsical and playful, even further highlighting Salome's character in Duffy's own rendition. But also in the bigger picture, completes this fantastical and surreal world both outer-space and earthly that Daniel Roseberry's presents in this collection. Sorry for the length lol, and I'm mostly reaching with all of this but it just shows how exited I am about the collection, and the direction Daniel Roseberry is heading at the moment.

Many references to Elsa's 1938 collections which were themed ornately embroidery Apollo of Versailles, Zodiac, and Circus all collections from 1938. Elsa designed very ornate costume jewelry which in my opinion was equally as impressive as Elsa Schiaparelli's clothes. Thank you for mentioning one of my favourite artists, Popova. Russian Constructivist art can get overlooked because of its association with the USSR. BUT it's such an interesting art movement because a lot of the artists were women, which, from looking at art history isn't very reccurent. Constructivist clothing is also very interesting because it is so modern, aline and gender fluid. This might be wrong but I would say Chanel was influenced by the constructivists and the USSR, as were the Nazis, who stole style tips from the Bolsheviks, such as the leather jackets.

“ I digress” should be the title card for our recent decade. I haven’t seen anything worthy of Elsa in these recent revivals, other than the lung necklace. The old fashion houses are corporate, derivative and dead. Animated corpses, only walking upright thanks to massive global capital dominance, gauche consumerist nostalgia, expensive formaldehyde, and standing rudely on the laurels of the original visionaries. There are new designers that are interesting. But if everyone comes from the same class fishbowl, the affluent upbringing-to college-to internship pipeline.. its just appropriators lapping themselves. The result of a xerox of a xerox of a xerox.. reducing all creative fields to teachable data points doesn’t just yield bland flat dilution, it creates slop. Waste. I will say the Monstrance headband is pretty gorgeous, but again, its not inspired.

She has tapped into the archives of previous designs of the brand as any designer or creative director would but she is also traveling to different places in the world and taking inspiration from those techniques of the people who live there and incorporating what they do into the brand.
