Large parts of the world are currently affected by the novel coronavirus Covid-19 outbreak that originated in China. Other than a global health crisis, the disease has also caused havoc in the daily lives of people, and has disrupted many societies and economies.
The aviation, travel, and tourism industries are among the worst affected sectors around the world with only a fraction of previous 'normal' activity. These scenes provide a glimpse of the third busiest airport in Europe, Amsterdam Schiphol Airport in the Netherlands, on 'lockdown'. Almost empty departure halls, cancelled flights, and airplanes of Dutch flag carrier KLM (Royal Dutch Airlines) parked on the runway.
These images were shot on 1 April 2020 as part of my work. Please be very careful in your daily routine and follow advice from your respective governments and medical institutions.
